Hello,
I have two Drift Ghost S cameras, both of which have the same problem!
For recordings of less than 28 minutes, I have no issues, but as soon as the recording continues beyond that time, it creates a new file (so far, that’s normal) and continues recording. However, after stopping the recording, when I check the memory card, every time, if the first file is readable, all the subsequent ones (that is, the second file and those after the 29th minute and beyond) are unreadable as if the encoding from the camera is not correct.
I have tried with about ten memory cards: SDHC, SDHX, 32GB and 64GB, Sandisk, Samsung, and no-name brands. Nothing works; the same problem persists on both cameras!
I also thought that the issue might be software-related, or that a software error might have crept into these factory versions. Although my version was up to date, I went ahead and overwrote the software with the version directly from the Drift website. No change.
Of course, I tried changing multimedia players: VLC, Media Player Classic with and without the mega codec pack, and still no change.
In short, I don't know what to do anymore. If anyone has a solution, that would be really great!
Thank you very much for your help and your advice.

In your menu and submenu, have you validated "never" in the "device off" mode?
Additionally, it still needs to be confirmed on your model, but some drifts do not support SDHX cards.

Good evening PacalVideo and thank you for your response and your time.
I imagine you are talking about the "auto camera shutdown" option? If that's the case, this option is unchecked.
Indeed, at the beginning of these issues, I "jumped" onto Drift's site and their support area to see that SDHX was not recommended. So, I bought the ones recommended by Drift: Sandisk SDHC class10.
This is currently what is in the camera and I have no change.

Hello,
I have solved the problem. Well, sort of... After 3 customer service interactions knowing that I have 2 Drift Ghost S, which is 6 cameras in my hands, the problem is present on all Ghost S cameras and possibly other models as well.
The only solution to avoid having corrupted files is to only use memory cards with a maximum of 16 GB.
Thank you nonetheless for sending an email to report your issue to: sav.france@driftinnovation.com
And if you speak English, especially to: http://store.driftinnovation.com/eu/contacts
Because that is the headquarters.
I ask you to send an email because apparently I would be the first and only customer to have this problem. And in my opinion, it’s a software bug that requires a simple update and it’s not hardware related at all. Especially since this camera has never had an update yet.
In short, receiving emails from other customers will push them to get their act together and start working on a software fix.
Thank you and good luck.

Hello swayx
I assure you, I have the same issues and the same story as you. I was the first and the only one with this problem, and now I realize that's not the case, which is reassuring—I'm not crazy!!!!!
I have contacted several customer services and sent an explanation email to Drift, hoping they will solve the problem with a new firmware.

I tested it on mine and there are no encoding issues. Indeed, after 28 minutes and 59 seconds of recording, the remainder is generated in a second file, but this one is readable normally. During this test, I stopped the recording by turning off the camera directly. I did a second test by stopping after 40 minutes with the remote control, same thing. No problems. My SD card is a Sandisk Extreme Class 10 32GB.
Hello,
The first two files are also readable for me. It's mainly starting from the 3rd or 4th that there's an issue.
What happens after 2 hours of recording? Are all the recordings (4 files of 30 minutes) visible?
Thank you for the information about your memory card. And if it works, I thank you in advance for the test because I will buy the same card as yours.

Hi swayx,
so here’s the test result: everything works perfectly...
details: Drift ghost S purchased in March 2015 firmware 1.0.0.0 filmed in 1080p fps60 fov127 exp 0
SanDisk Extreme - 32 GB microSDHC UHS-I Memory Card - UHS Class 3 / Class10 - Red, Gold
file playback on PC with "windows media player" on SD port with "adapter" sandisk microSD
I recorded 2h15 of continuous footage fixed with a headband on a tree in my garden then 2 other recordings right after of 16s and 34s triggered with the remote. A total of 7 files (not counting the _thm) were created:
1- 3609383Ko 28min59
2- 3845905Ko 28min58
3- 3639537Ko 28min59
4- 3636315Ko 28min58
5- 2145202Ko 16min09
6- 35241Ko 16 sec
7- 77663Ko 34 sec
no playback issues with any of these files.

I was in the garden at the same time for a barbecue, and the ghostS beeps at the end of each intermediate file during this continuous 2h15 recording. Do you know a way to remove the beeps?? Not necessarily the intermediates, but especially those at the beginning and end of a video triggered with the remote control.
Thanks

Hello everyone
same issue with unreadable files (video less than 20 min)
I'm going to continue with a 16GB.
Just to let you know, I had these unreadable files on the same days when the heat was high, there might be an overheating issue in the case, has anyone tried putting water in the case, and apparently that worked...
Have you noticed a temperature difference between the 32GB and 16GB tests?
See you later
PS: the "butt" wheel of the ghost is broken after about ten uses.

Yes, I forgot to mention that they are indeed all class 10 for all the different cards I mentioned. They are also all new.
Additionally, I just ran another test and I realize that as long as I don't let the camera record for more than 28 minutes and thus create a second file, I can make other recordings without any problem after my card.
However, if I let my camera record for more than 28 minutes once and create this second file, from then on, I can still start recordings but the files always end up corrupted when I try to play them. So as soon as one recording is faulty, it ruins all those that follow.
I also want to clarify that it doesn’t matter whether this playback is done from my PC or from the camera itself.
By unreadable, I mean that in the memory card folder the file has the correct name and extension, but when I try to play it in any player, I get:
- For MPC > impossible to read the file
- For VLC > Impossible to read the file. It indicates that a codec might be missing. And this is while the file from the first 28 minutes has no issues whatsoever.
Indeed, that's quite a hassle.
I can’t do much other than tell you to contact Drift's customer service and explain it to them.
Maybe it’s a bug and a update is needed; otherwise, try using the warranty to get a new camera.
