Hello!
So, I have an Acer Aspire M3203 desktop PC running Windows 7 (AMD processor).
Since yesterday, when I start it, it freezes on a black screen with a white blinking dash at the top left.
I've found similar topics, but I still can't find any solutions!!! :'(
I've unplugged all my peripherals, but that didn't help.
Before showing this black screen, I have 2 options: [Del: Enter Setup or F12: Boot Menu], both work, but since I don't know much about computers, I have no idea what to do with them!
Can anyone here suggest clear solutions please??? I'm not the best with PCs...
Next step: I'm going to look for the hammer in the garage!!!!!!

Hi,
Press Del
Check in the BIOS if in the Boot section your hard drive is properly set as second, right after your DVD-ROM
See if it is detected first...-
(Tu vas désespérer face à ma nullité attention !)
It shows me:
>Product Information
>Standard CMOS Features
>Advanced BIOS Features
>Advanced Chipset Features
>Integrated Peripherals
>Power Management Setup
>PC Health Status
>Frequency/Voltage Control
>BIOS Security Features
Load Default Settings
Save & Exit Setup
Exit Without Saving
Where exactly do I click to see what you're telling me? O:-) -

We don't see any disk, it says to press Enter.

Good evening, Advanced BIOS Features is where the BOOT sequence menu is located
Normal configuration
HARD DISK BOOT PRIORITY PRESS ENTER "to modify the hard drive boot sequence press the ENTER key"
FIRST BOOT DEVICE HARD DISK "first boot device: the hard disk
the main hard disk is where the operating system is located
CD-ROM BOOT PRIORITY PRESS ENTER "to modify the boot sequence of the CD/DVD ROM drive press ENTER
SECOND BOOT DEVICE: CD ROM "second boot device the CD ROM drive"
The CD-ROM drive from the BIOS is used to REPAIR or FORMAT Windows
to start from Windows CD/DVD ROM it must be placed first as FIRST BOOT in the CD DVD ROM drive
REMOVABLE DEVICE PRIORITY PRESS ENTER "REMOVABLE STORAGE such as a USB stick, for example, a bootable ISO WINDOWS 7 to repair
THIRD BOOT DEVICE "third device"
And to repair with a bootable ISO USB stick it must be set to FIRST BOOT "REMOVABLE"
NETWORK BOOT PRIORITY PRESS ENTER "from a network connection" via the PC's network card, this practice is very rare
I have unplugged all my devices, it hasn't helped.
Removable storage example external hard disk, USB stick or gadget * MASS STORAGE
*External CD/DVD drive
Do not unplug the printer but turn it off "which has the power button"
the only device that should be running is the ROUTER it does not interfere "WIFI network or via RJ 45 ETHERNET cable"
To get this you must have fiddled somewhere F12 boot menu or elsewhere!
F12 boot menu is a shortcut you must press the F12 key at startup then modify the boot sequence
If in 1: you have anything other than your hard disk, for example REMOVABLE DEVICE
then you must set in 1: HARD DRIVE
if you had in 1: CD ROM DRIVE Windows System would have asked you this
PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD-ROM with a blinking dash, you say you only have a dash.
a dash means there is a problem with WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER
hardware or software tampering or hard disk failure?
I summarize normal configuration Windows boot manager!
FIRST BOOT HDD HARD DISK
SECOND BOOT CD-ROM
THIRD BOOT REMOVABLE
FLOPPY DISK: floppy drive

Hi,
I think your research in the BIOS is not helpful. The blinking dash suggests that the hard drive is indeed being read, but something is wrong in the first step of booting, that is, when the PC's firmware reads the MBR (master boot record) of the hard drive. If the drive were not being read, we would encounter a different message like
PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: exiting PXE ROM
or the PC would spontaneously open the BIOS completely. At worst, if in doubt, you can use F9 to reset the BIOS to its initial state.
Personally, the first thing I would do is boot the PC from the W7 DVD in "repair your computer" mode, or if you don't have a DVD, I would create a repair USB stick by following the tutorial on pc-astuces:
https://www.pcastuces.com/pratique/windows/7/cle_usb_reparation/page1.htm
Once done, tap F12 at startup, and boot from the USB stick. At this point, we'll see what to do next. -
Well, after turning the house upside down, I miraculously found the restoration CDs I made when I set up my PC!
I just started the restoration; if I messed up something, it should go back to normal by resetting everything, right?
