[Startup Issue] Checking NVRAM

Hello,

I built a PC with parts that hadn't been used for about 6 months in a new case.
After turning on the PC, it gets stuck on the message "Checking NVRAM" or, on rare occasions, "Checking NVRAM..Update OK" and I therefore cannot access the BIOS. I tried starting it with only the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and video card connected, but the result is the same. I also performed a Clear CMOS, removed the battery for several hours, and changed the RAM, yet I'm still getting the same result.
I really don't know what else to do to get the PC to start completely.

Here is the PC configuration:
Motherboard: MSI KT4V
Processor: AMD 2600+
Graphics card: NVIDIA 5500 FX
RAM: 256 Mo Pmi

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

For your information, I had this problem too with "Checking NVRAM..," and in fact, the issue can come from several sources.

What you need to do is check all the peripherals by unplugging them, changing the RAM slot, replacing the BIOS battery, doing several CMOS clears, etc...
But you also need to unplug the graphics card, hard drive, CD drive, really try everything!

For me, I unplugged the hard drive and saw that the PC was starting up differently and got further than the "Checking NVRAM" message, so I deduced that it was the hard drive.
I changed the hard drive and it works! :)

I hope this helps more than one person.

See you!

Hi! I had the same problem and I just found the solution (it's my battery that's not good because when I plugged it directly into the wall socket, it worked).

Hello,

You changed the RAM, but have you tried another slot?

Yes, I've tried all the slots on my motherboard, unfortunately without success.

Me too, it does the same to me since I’ve been in SLI, and it only freezes my PC if I leave a USB stick in a port. However, I haven’t configured anything in the boot setup.
