VLC is not playing anything anymore

Hello,

Surprise when I tried to launch a video on VLC today, it no longer plays any of my files. When I double-click on my files, VLC opens, shows the name of my file but nothing happens... The time is stuck at zero, the screen remains black and it's completely silent.
What can I do to fix this problem? I have already tried several times to uninstall and reinstall the latest version of VLC but it still doesn't work.
Thank you for your help.

    Hello
Can you read with Windows Media Player?

No, Windows Media doesn't work either. In fact, it's mainly the .avi and .mkv formats that are problematic. I managed to play mp4 this morning but not the other formats.

    Hello.

A story of unknown codecs as usual.

Try converting with Freemake Video Converter for example or Format Factory, but there are many other video converters!

This is just a suggestion ... See you later

Thank you for the idea, but isn't there a way to "fix" VLC?

      Hello.

Since you uninstalled and then reinstalled VLC, you essentially have a brand new software, so to speak. Did you restart the PC after the uninstallation?
In any case, if it doesn't work with Media Player either, except with MP4 format,
there's a good chance it's a codec issue. Now, do you watch commercial DVD movies?

      See you...

Indeed, I restarted the PC and it doesn't change anything; what annoys me the most is that it no longer reads .avi files.

I watch a few movies in DVD format yes but they are mostly videos that I use for work and that I download from the internet in .avi that no longer work.

Here is the latest version of VLC, which does not require codecs.

If it doesn't work, you have a problem with your Windows, since WMP doesn't work either

This latest version of VLC doesn't work on my PC either. It must be a codec issue on Windows since WMP doesn't play them for me either. Any ideas on how to solve this codec problem?

I tried to install it but WMP is not working. I recently scanned the PC with MBAM and deleted some files in quarantine; could that be the reason, or not? A file that I shouldn't have deleted?

Well, if you had some crap on your PC, it’s indeed possible that infected system files were deleted by Malwarebytes.
So your problems probably come from there.
And in that case, you need to reinstall the system.

I just tried to restore the PC to the first partition, to reinstall everything and now... VLC and WMP still won't play .avi files...
I'm really getting fed up with this story :(
