What is dedicated memory used for?

Hello,
I would like to know what the dedicated memory of a graphics card is for and how much is needed for gaming.

    Regarding the size of video memory to prioritize for gaming, it depends on:
    -the other components of your PC;
    -the resolution of your screen;
    -the games and the desired quality level.

    PS: 2GB (GDDR5) of video memory is sufficient for most games at 1080P.
