Hello,
actually, I would like to know how to change my old processor Intel Pentium CPU B960 2.20GHz on my laptop, which is a Toshiba Satellite C855-1WH that I actually find to be a very good laptop but the processor leaves something to be desired..
So I have:
-6GB of RAM
-a 64bit operating system
-an Intel Pentium B960 processor
and I would like to replace my processor with an I5 or I7 to fully enjoy the 6GB of RAM, but I would like to know if my laptop is compatible and with which models, etc...

Hello,
In principle, it should be possible to change the processor if you indeed have a socket 988
To know the compatibility of processors, you also need to know the chipset installed on your motherboard...
Use CPU-Z or Speccy to get the information

Which socket is 988 ?? PPGA 988, FCPGA 988 or PGA988 ?
What is your chipset ?
Take a screenshot of CPU-Z and post it here
Does your socket look like the image I linked above ?

Hello,
from what I know, you can't change the processor on a laptop because it is soldered to the motherboard.
---
It's not always true; in general, it's more dedicated to low-end processors like Atom or others to be soldered to the motherboard.
A laptop processor can be changed quite easily by removing the copper components and using a screwdriver to slightly move its support in order to remove it.- Another topic resurrection... In fact, Ruugar is not entirely wrong... in 90% of cases you cannot change the processor in a laptop, however, certain sockets, such as the 988 mentioned above, allow for this change, but it is not a matter of low-end or high-end, it is primarily a matter of socket and chipset, as the chipset also influences the processors compatible with a socket.

price-performance ratio I found this one
[ http://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/processeurs/intel-i5-3320m-3m-cache-2-6-ghz/f-1076425-int5032037040020.html#mpos=2l]
It's worth considering that core i5s adopt all the technologies like turbo cache, hyper threading... In conclusion, a core i5 of equivalent power will still be more performant than an intel b960.
