Install an unsigned driver on XP

Hello,

The driver for my sound card is not recognized by XP due to the signature, the driver was downloaded from the manufacturer's site Nvidia.

As a result, I have no sound.

I found out how to disable the signature enforcement system on Vista but not on XP.

Could someone please tell me how to disable and then reactivate this enforcement, while I install the troublesome driver?

Thank you in advance

    It is always possible to disable driver signature enforcement.

    Many manufacturers do not sign their drivers with Microsoft either due to lack of time or lack of financial resources.

    To change the behavior of Windows XP regarding unsigned drivers, you need to go to:

    Control Panel -----> Administrative Tools ------> Local Security Policy

    The categories will then be on the left side and the options on the right side of the window.

    Expand the Local Policies category and then click on Security Options (still on the left), then the option "Devices: Installation behavior of unsigned drivers" will appear on the right side (you might need to scroll a bit as they are arranged alphabetically).

    You will then have 3 configuration options:

    - Silent success: the driver will install automatically even if it is not signed.

    - Warn but allow installation: I don't think it is necessary to explain this :)

    - Do not allow installation: in this case, the installation of an unsigned driver cannot be performed.

    See you later!

    Realtek ALC650 Audio Card @ nVIDIA MCP2 - Audio Codec Interface
    Well personally, I would go to the Realtek website!
    Then, it's just that Microsoft doesn't have time to sign 10,000 drivers; the signature being a "read and approved by Microsoft," it is usually not necessary!
    It's just a PSEUDO guarantee of quality!

    Here’s your driver on the Realtek website:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

    Hi,

    Nvidia is a manufacturer of graphics cards, not sound cards!

    See you!

    I believe the sound card is integrated into my motherboard which is manufactured by MSI.

    Attached is my system profile from Everest.

    When I install the NVIDIA or Realtek drivers, I am informed during the installation that the signature is not recognized by Microsoft.

    Then, in the device management, I have a nice yellow question mark next to nVidia(R)nforce(TM) Audio that appears.

    So my question is how to disable signature verification in XP.

    Thank you

      Re,

      Here are the drivers for your ALC650 sound card, choose the ones for XP of course:

      http://www.station-drivers.com/page/realtek.htm

      If your graphics card driver seems to be poorly installed, you should download it from the ATI website.

      Finally, the best option is to provide the reference of your motherboard and look for the drivers on the MSI website (especially the nForce2 driver that seems to be causing you trouble).

      Re,

      thank you for this information.

      I think there is a problem because it always tells me during installation that the signature is not recognized by XP. However, I have indeed selected the ALC650 driver for XP.

      I keep coming back to this question: how can I disable this signature verification on XP?

      Thank you.

        Hi,

        you can't but you can continue to install the driver logically.

        See you later!

        Hi,

        indeed, I continue the installation but in the end, I end up with a pretty yellow question mark and no sound.

        so I really don’t know what to do anymore.

    You need to go to the Control Panel;

    then System;
    then System Properties;
    Driver Signature;

    check: Warn - Ask me to choose every time.

    Have a good day
