[WORD 97] background problem

Impossible to change the background in Microsoft Word 97; I can't even set it to white. Even using the format background, when I change it, it changes the color and layout, but it does not apply any of the changes made when printing.
Configuration: Windows 98 Internet Explorer 6.0

    Hi

    to print a background in Word, you need to do it like this:
    tools -> options -> "printing" tab and check "background colors and images"

    and there you go, your background will print

      It prints on the computer but if we do the preview and want to print, we have a blank background....
