Ethernet port DVD player

Hello,

I have a Sony DVD player with an Ethernet port. I was wondering if this port is only used for updating my player or if I could also use it to connect to the television.
In that case, since my television does not have an Ethernet port, can I use an Ethernet/HDMI adapter to connect the DVD player to my TV via an Ethernet cable?

      I don't know, the usage is defined by the manufacturer and it's stated in the manual.
