Actual capacity of external hard drive

Hello to you,

I recently bought an external hard drive and I got scammed. It was supposed to have a capacity of 1 Terabyte (TB), but when I tried to transfer data of more than 12GB, it kept lagging. I took it to a specialist and it turned out that the actual capacity of the drive is much, much less than 1TB; it doesn't even reach 10GB.

So that I don't get scammed again in the future, could you please tell me how to check the true capacity of an external hard drive before buying it? Thank you in advance for your responses.

Your disk is indeed 1TB (931GB), but it is formatted in FAT32, which does not support files larger than 4GB. (not 10 or 12)

Backup what is on it and format it to NTFS via the disk management tool.

I can't do it matrix4422, through the manager, a small window saying that access is denied pops up. I also tried right-clicking in the "computer" window but it lags when I click on "start" (the formatting).

Hello "matrix4422".

This disk is strange.

I wonder if we should delete the partition, create a new one, and format it.

What do you think?
