Is the hard drive ROM?
I have a metaphysical question ;-) Can we say that an computer's hard drive is read-only memory (ROM)? (in the sense that read-only memory is a storage area for data that is not erased when the computer is turned off).
Thank you for your answer (this might settle a quarrel among computer scientists :D

Hello,
much to your metaphysics' dismay, the hard drive IS NOT ROM, ROM stands for Read Only Memory, which can only be read, whereas the hard drive can read and modify data.
