Hello,

Do you know www.aubergedejeunesse.com?

I need to book 15 days in a youth hostel in Japan at a reasonable price, and this site offers hostels within my price range. But is this site reliable? Will there be any additional charges upon arrival that are not specified in the hostel descriptions?

Thank you for your answers.

Hello,

no idea but here is the official website of youth hostels http://www.jyh.or.jp/japanyh_e.php

or https://www.hihostels.com/destinations/jp/hostels?view=map&linkid=980028 in French; if you get a membership card from https://www.fuaj.org/ you'll even be entitled to discounts.

Hello, this is not a scam but a great dishonesty, which amounts to the same thing. I just had the worst experience of my life at the hotel in Dover, England. They booked me a room for 5 with a private bathroom and breakfast included. Nothing matched what was promised. I immediately complained to the owner about the lack of service, the unsanitary conditions, and the unsafe environment (see reviews on TripAdvisor for Castle Inn hotel in Dover). He blamed the booking site, which charges him fees and the customers, and auberge.com, to whom I requested a refund, shifts the blame to the general terms and conditions. I will therefore take further action if they do not acknowledge their dishonesty.

And yet, you were lucky to have a room. I found myself with my children in Granada, and the hotel we booked didn't recognize this organization (full hotel). We had paid 14 euros in reservation fees to be deducted later from the merchant, and of course, we never got it back. Out of curiosity, when I returned to France, I called a hotel from their list and it was the same, unknown. In short, this site is a SCAM. They only make you pay a small amount so that no one suspects anything and no one files a complaint. These people disgust me. Isabelle

Hello,
I strongly discourage this site.
I booked a hotel for one night. I paid an amount of 23.10 euros with the rest to be paid on site. However, my credit card was not valid for the hotel. In the end, I didn't get a room and the 23.10 euros were charged by the site and are non-refundable.

If you want to book, go directly to the hotel's website.

Hello,

They are not responsible for the invalidity of your card... Either you should have read the site's terms and conditions, or you should have ensured your card was functioning. In any case, they incurred processing fees, transmission costs, etc...

One question: did the hotel not accept cash?

Scam!!! I booked a room on their site in Chengdu, China. 12% of the total, or €35, had to be paid online, the rest at the hotel. We arrived at 1 a.m. at the hostel, which told us they were full and that they did not work with this website. I lost €35 and a night of sleep because we had to drive around the city looking for another hotel with a free room.

Total scam, site to avoid. They play on the name Youth Hostel, but have nothing to do with it.
We had booked a room for our daughter in Sheffield, paying part of the fee, with the rest to be settled on site. When she arrived at the hostel, they said they were fully booked for several days and did not work with this booking site... We logged back onto the site, which continued to show several rooms available, even though the hotel was fully booked!

Continuation of our misadventure. After a month with no news, despite several follow-ups, we finally decided to file a complaint in France for fraud on the official portal for illegal content on the internet in France (internet-signalement.gouv.fr), as well as with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) in Canada, the country where the owner of World Hostels Group Corporation is based (their contact details are provided in the "legal notice" page - link at the bottom of the site).
Ultimately, it was this second complaint that triggered not only the reimbursement of the deposit (8.83 EUR) but also the additional fees (80 GBP) incurred from having to book a much more expensive room at a hotel (Ibis) at the last moment.
One small downside, although transactions on the site are indicated in EUR, payments are made in the hotel's currency (GBP) and therefore conversion fees apply...

Did you compare with the sites I mentioned?
Same price?
If so, no worries...

Hello,
I just got scammed as well. The website indicated a female-only room (it was a hotel). When I arrived, the hostel was located near factories, very unsanitary, and I was with men (I’m a young girl). I can’t tell you how scared I was. The owner forced me to pay for the 3 nights I had booked even though I didn’t stay a single night... I left immediately. Does anyone have any advice on what to do (of course, there's no way to contact them...)

What a scam this site is, I showed up at the hotel and of course, they didn't have my reservation and the hotel was fully booked. I was therefore forced to rent another place, further from the center and super expensive.
I just sent them an email asking for a refund and compensation for the extra cost, threatening to file a complaint with the Canadian office.
However, in the legal notices, it now states that they are based in Ireland (with a Parisian address nonetheless).

Whois seems to confirm that it is still registered in Canada
http://network-tools.com/default.asp?prog=whois&host=aubergesdejeunesse.com

Additionally, we made a bit of a scene at the hotel because the guy seemed to say it was not his problem. We responded that it was still somewhat his responsibility and that they should check that they are not listed anywhere randomly.
Moreover, I suspect he is well aware of the issue: he immediately mentioned "Hostelclub" (which is the financial name of the organization I found on my bank statement) even though this name is not mentioned anywhere on the site.
So, it's also possible that the listed hotels are benefiting from it: a nice little overbooking situation in perspective.
