[wifi] Windows could not find a certificate Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

So, I have a desktop PC connected to a Freebox via Ethernet cable and a laptop (equipped with a Wi-Fi card) that I want to connect to the Freebox via Wi-Fi.

Currently, when the laptop detects the Freephonie network and I try to connect, I get a message saying "Windows could not find a certificate, etc..."

Could someone please indicate the main steps to follow to connect?

Hello,  not complicating life is a fundamental principle in computing :)) the simplest solution is to read what Windows tells you, ok, no certificate, so just disable authentication, to do this, go to settings
etwork connections\ (right-click on the wireless network adapter\properties\wireless networks configuration tab\select the network in preferred networks\click on properties\go to the tab\authentication\uncheck enable the authentication .... validate by OK and that's it! otherwise, for those who like challenges, you need to look for the Windows fix ..etc it's a problem related to the authenticity of the version used Good luck

Hello, the Freephonie network is not the Wi-Fi network. It is the Wi-Fi telephony network.
To connect the PC to the Wi-Fi, you need to activate the Wi-Fi in the Free console on the Free website (your account), and once done, restart the Freebox.
Look at this link (last image), choose WPA (more secure than WEP) if you are on XP. For "network," you give an explicit name to identify it.
To verify later that Wi-Fi is activated and find the key, go
on your TV/press the "free" button (blue at the bottom) then Free ADSL/Wi-Fi info (blue button at the top).

hi

normally it's not the freephonie network that you should connect to because this one is used for the wifi phone sold by free (the black or the white) otherwise you need to activate the wifi of your freebox from the management interface and then restart the freebox and as soon as you detect the name of the wifi network that you set (or under the default name of freebox) you can connect to it using the wep or wpa key mentioned in the configuration

Hello everyone..
I also have this error message..
Windows could not find a certificate to connect to the network... that pops up every two seconds..
except that I don't have the Freebox.. I'm on Noos and I bought a D-Link 635 router...
well, my internet is working just fine.. proof is I'm writing to you from my phone..
but this annoying message keeps coming back..
I tried rebooting my modem like you did with the Freebox.. but it didn't change anything...
still and always this message!

what can I do?

Hello,
I myself have this problem with my télé2Box.
But it differs in several ways:
*I am on Dual Boot XP/Ubuntu
*Everything works wonderfully under Ubuntu
*It started happening when I created reserved addresses for each of my interfaces (Ethernet, Wifi PCMCIA, Integrated Wifi [I have a laptop])

- Restarting the box, as I suspected, didn’t help
- Configuring the Wifi not to use DHCP seems to connect, but in fact, no data is received.

I had forgotten that I changed the network encryption to WPA2-PSK.
Under Windows XP SP2, a patch (KB893357) is needed to connect, which can be found at the following address:

I have the same issue and I can't find a way to resolve the problem either.

An SFR box connected via Ethernet to a fixed station + 2 laptops connected to the WIFI network (connected... or almost...)

The first laptop connects to the WIFI so I have internet, but the error message stating that Windows cannot provide a certificate to connect to the network still appears, and the other laptop only has the Windows error message but no internet connection.

I have also been experiencing this issue since I changed my Freebox. I had Wi-Fi with the V4 box, but when I tried to connect with the V5, there was initially no connection at all. I connected via Ethernet and switched to WEP. I also restarted the router and the Wi-Fi on the Free website.

After that, I had a Wi-Fi connection, but I was getting a certificate error display. I simply unchecked "Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication for this network" in the properties. And that went away. I'm not sure what that actually changes..

The location is: (for XP)

- properties on the Wi-Fi connection in "network connections"

- second tab "wireless network config"
- select the available network, and 'properties'
- second tab "authentication"

However, I have a lower speed compared to my old box. About half, which I don’t understand. Should I change the Wi-Fi card on the PC? Any advice would be appreciated..?

No, I don't think it's dangerous, it's just that Windows doesn't recognize the certificate... which is a form of security... for the connection.. You should look up 'IEEE 802' on Google to know what it means, because I don't know, I haven't looked into it yet :-)

As usual, Windows keeps it simple... Three Ubuntus (2 - 9.10 > 1 - 8.10) connected without a hitch even though I just replaced my Linksys router with a Netgear!

To fix the certificate issue, I will give you a solution if you have Windows XP SP2:
So
1/ Go to Connections in Start > right-click on your wireless network > Wireless Network Connections > click once on your network followed by Properties > in Association, choose WPA network authentication > switch to authentication and uncheck the checked items > choose type of EAP: Protected EAP (PEAP) > Properties > uncheck all checked items > Configuration; and uncheck the item > finally click OK until you exit.
Now the connection will prompt you to click to add a certificate. You click and fill in the fields username (surname), password (network password), and the last field is the network name.
And there you go, the problem is solved.
