Hello,

I have an Asus N53S laptop purchased with Windows 7, and I upgraded to Windows 8.
After encountering a problem, I wanted to reinstall Windows 8, so I downloaded an image of Windows 8 and installed it. However, because my key is for an upgrade version and not a fresh install, Windows 8 won’t activate.

The Windows customer service advised me to reinstall Windows 7 and then upgrade to Windows 8 again.

Since I no longer have a recovery partition, I called Asus customer service, who advised me to buy the recovery DVD for my computer. I ordered the DVD from their website, which costs a painful €35.

Now, I can no longer access my BIOS to change the boot order of my computer. I managed to do this when reinstalling Windows 8 (I believe I had to press F2), and I contacted Asus customer service again, who had me perform some manipulations without success (pressing various keys at startup like F2 and Escape, removing the battery, clearing ports, and freeing USB ports).

I’ve also read forums suggesting performing a CCMOS, a procedure I haven't done because I don't know the specific steps for my computer.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, and if you have a solution to my problem, please share it with me.

Configuration: Windows 8 / Chrome 30.0.1599.101 / CORE i7 / GEFORCE GT540M

You need to press F2 when the ASUS logo appears..

It's really right after powering on and before Windows starts loading.

You can keep tapping it continuously.

I did that, I spammed F2 right after pressing the power button, I also tried waiting to see the Asus logo, but each time Windows starts instead of the BIOS.

Hello, I solved my problem by removing the hard drive and then restarting the PC without it, which allowed me to access the BIOS and enable CD boot.
Then I reassembled the hard drive and restarted the PC, which booted from the CD, and I was finally able to reinstall my system.
