Which PS3 to choose? Slim or Ultra-Slim?

Hi everyone,

I want to buy a PS3 but I don't know which one to choose...
I know that the Slim models have a larger hard drive than the Ultra-Slim!
I've also seen on forums that the Ultra-Slim has major issues, that it was out of order after just 2 months...!

It depends on your tastes; if you're looking for a PS3 with good memory and convenience, the disc-eating reader is quite nice, so go for the slim. And if you want a prettier PS3 and you're the flashy type who likes to have the latest version, then go for the ultra slim. Otherwise, personally, I recommend the PS4, which isn't too expensive. And if your budget doesn't allow it, a bit of saving is in order. You'll manage in two months since there's not a big price gap between the PS3 and the PS4.

Personally, I don’t see any difference (in terms of performance) between the Slim and the Ultra Slim. However, I find that the Ultra Slim has a disadvantage with the disk opening (on top) which makes the Slim more practical. I’ve been using the Slim without any problems for quite a while. So I would recommend the Slim over the Ultra Slim.

Yes, it’s true that it would be unfortunate to buy the PS3 so close to the release date of the PS4.  -- If stupidity had a forum, there would be many webmasters.

Thank you for your answers, I think I'm going to go for the Slim because I would be afraid of getting the Ultra-Slim and having issues... The Slim seems more reliable to me. And I prefer having a disc drive rather than a manual disc opener.

I want to buy the PS3 just to have a fairly recent console and not spend a fortune on a PS4!

What is the capacity of your PS3? 160 GB? Because aren't there more reliable PS3 Slims than others? Like is the 160 GB more reliable than the 250 or 320 GB?

Thank you for all your responses. I think I'm going to go for a 160 GB or 250 GB, but not more; otherwise, I won't put too many games on it, I won't download anything, like I'll buy a few games like Call of Duty, FIFA, car games, etc. I don't want to use a 500 GB hard drive because it comes from an Ultra-Slim and if it breaks down...! After all, I'm not a "big" gamer, so I think 160 or 250 GB will be enough!

Do you know the price of an Ethernet cable for online gaming?

Hi, you don't have to buy one if you want to play online, unless you are really far from your box and the signal is weak; otherwise, for the price of Ethernet cables, the prices vary a lot. I'll let you check out whichever one you want. Be sure to pay attention to the length of the cable if you are more or less far from your PS3 so that the cable isn't too taut.

Hi, the PS3 will be in my room and the box is a bit far, so I'll need a cable then. Thanks for your site, I looked it up and I think the 4.2m Ethernet cable will be more than enough for me, and the price isn't too high either.

And to have a controller that "works all the time," do I need a SONY controller, Dualshock 3 Sixaxis? Thanks for your reply...
