How to stop having a "full SMS memory"?

Hello,
My phone keeps showing "SMS memory full", so I definitely need to delete some SMS messages, which I don't want to do because I need to show certain conversations at the end of the holidays. I therefore bought a memory card but that doesn't work; my SMS memory is still full. :(
If you could help me it would be really great! Thank you in advance.

      Maybe, but I just want to have a larger SMS memory actually, and I thought it would be bigger with a memory card, but it doesn't change anything actually when I go to: memory status, it shows me that on the phone I have a limit of 300 SMS and that on the SIM I have a limit of 50. Do you think it would be possible to configure something to increase this?
