Hello,
Yes, it is possible to change (add) the color of tags for any file or folder. By default, the color is transparent (no color).
!!! First, make sure that the toolbar is visible in Finder windows !!!
1) Open a new Finder window (shortcut:
cmd+n)
2) In the menu bar at the top, click on View --> Show Toolbar
To change the color:
The quickest way: 1) In a Finder window, click once on a file
2) In the Finder toolbar, click on the "small gear"
3) In the dropdown menu, you will find an "label" line: simply click on the color of your choice and the label color will change instantly.
4) To return to the transparent color (no color), click the X on the far left of the colors
It is possible to change the color of multiple folders at once:
1) In a Finder window, select multiple files
2) Proceed as per points 2) 3) and 4) described above
The most comprehensive way: 1) Click once on a file
2) On your keyboard, press the keys
cmd+i 3) In the small window that just opened, you will find a "label" line: simply click on the color of your choice and the label color will change instantly.
Note: this small window is very useful (also accessible by right-clicking/Get Info), it gathers all the information related to the selected file: size in MB, creation date, pixel ratio for images and movies, duration for music and films, as well as the default program to open all files of the same type (e.g., .mp3).
4) To return to the transparent color (no color), click the X on the far left of the colors
It is possible to change the color of multiple folders at once:
1) Select multiple files
2) On your keyboard, press the keys
cmd+alt+i 3) Proceed as per points 3) and 4) described above
Important note: It seems obvious that the interest in having tags of different colors is to increase visibility, to customize sorting and organizing our files. For this purpose, in Finder windows, it is possible to sort folders by color:
1) In the Finder toolbar, click on the "small gear"
2) Arrange --> Tags
However, it is still important to know,
before spending hours changing the labels of your files, that there will be in the future Mac OS (Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks, probably in December 2013) the ability to add "Tags" to your files. In other words, instead of being limited to 8 colors with unclear symbolism, we will be able to "Tag" our files as we wish, with meaningful words, and virtually without limits. This may not seem revolutionary (the concept has existed for a long time), but directly integrated into the system, it will truly start to resemble intelligent sorting... patience!
Hoping to have been helpful, see you soon.
