Hi, to be honest, I'm terrible at this stuff,
I've just gotten a Freebox V5, I only have a Windows XP laptop, with built-in wifi and bluetooth, can I set up the wifi, put the Freebox in my office, and use my laptop in the living room, or in the garden for example?
If someone could give me some tips, thanks in advance
and have a good evening everyone, gerbotel

Good evening, yes the Freebox v5 is wifi. To activate it, go to the Free website and log in. Once on your account:
at the bottom of the right column, click on "optional features of the Freebox (wifi, router...)
"wifi function............configure"
at the very top
"You want to activate this service" check "activate"
"Automatic channel" check "activate"
"Protection" check "WPA (TKIP + AES)"
key "generate" or enter your own key (WPA can have a length between 8 and 63 characters)
"SEND"
you must turn off and restart the Freebox for it to take effect.
the password is visible on the TV, via the "FREE" blue button on the remote control, then "info Freebox adsl" then wifi (blue) (the wifi status must be "ok")
On the PC:
if Windows offers you to choose between the Windows program or the wifi hardware program to manage the wireless network, always choose Windows (it's simpler)
Control panel/network and internet connections/configure a wireless network.../next/network name "freebox" (this is the default name on your Free account)/manually assign a key/ check "use WPA encryption..." /next/enter the key (the one generated or created on the Free account)

Hello everyone!!
So since October, I've had the Freebox v5. I've configured the WiFi on the management interface, I've given a name to the SSID, a WEP key, and chosen a channel. Then I prioritized Windows to configure the WiFi (I have an Asus USB key for WiFi), but when I enter my WEP key in Windows, after a while, Windows tells me at the bottom right, "limited or no connectivity."
Can you please help me!!!!
Thank you in advance!!!

Who can help me activate the wifi on my Freebox HD!! After numerous attempts, I can't manage it! Thank you in advance!!
If you have the TV with the Freebox v5 (or HD), press the "Free" button on the remote control. Then you need to go to settings at the bottom left. Go to network information all the way to the right. Finally, click three times on the blue button (or X) and you will have all the necessary information:
_SSID
_Wep Key
_Channel
I hope I helped you, I’m 14 years old ^^

Hello.
And if we don't have the right column with "optional features of the Freebox (wifi, router...)", how do we activate the router????
Thank you.
See you later.

Hello, I have two computers, one that has Wi-Fi and one that doesn't. The PC that doesn't have Wi-Fi was configured before I bought it
and so it’s impossible to connect it via Wi-Fi.
and so it’s impossible to connect it via Wi-Fi.
I tried to send you the result of your answer twice, but it seems I made a mistake,
so I will start over.
Here are, possibly, my email addresses
- gegedany@free.fr or
- gegedany@hotmail.fr "or com" I have a webcam..
"maybe ..... right away..."
bye, gégé
Here, I think I found a way to continue the conversation....
so thanks again for your reply.
I had already done quite well except for a few details, everything you told me,
for the password on the TV, it's "only if I've lost it, right???"
So, to follow up... I’m leaving Free, I’m staying on the internet
- I unplug the Ethernet cable from the Freebox, and there, I no longer have Free connectivity
I go to network connection, I have no network to choose from
- Wi-Fi assistant, I check, it brings up a window "how do you want to configure your network?
- "configure your network manually," I check, and it tells me "refer to code 871122 in the knowledge base.
- "use a flash drive," I assume, a USB key... um...
I put in the USB key, it shows the name of my key "G," click next
- new window, "transfer your settings to your other computers or devices
- I take out my key, I put it back in another USB port, because I don’t quite understand these 2 options, 2 and 3.
and there it tells me "the assistant has completed successfully, your wireless network is now ready to be used. you have configured the following settings.
and..... I thought, great,... it's good.... but no...,
in the box below, there is
" wireless software error running on this computer, it is possible that the wireless network assistant is not functioning. for more information, refer to article 871122 in the Microsoft Windows knowledge base".....
what is this... thing?????
Well, it’s a bit long, I hope I’m not bothering you too much,
and thank you in advance.
I’ll leave you my email addresses just in case.

See you soon, gégé
Start/control panel/"Performance and maintenance" then/or "Administrative tools"/services/double click on the line "Wireless Auto Configuration"/in the startup type, choose "Automatic"/apply/start/ok
otherwise, you have the complete answer from Microsoft "code 871122":

another question: are you under XP SP1 or SP2? (right-click on My Computer/properties/under General "Service pack 1 or pack 2?")
