Find a word in an Excel file Solved

Hello everyone,

Here I am after several searches online and on this site to explain my problem:

I am currently working in a well-known company, which I cannot name, in the Tennis department. We have a file called "Casseur Contract" that includes all the clients who have a casseur contract with us.

This file has hundreds of clients but is not listed in alphabetical order.

You will understand that when a client comes in wanting to restring their racquet, it takes me several minutes to find them in the file, and now I come to the point:

Is there a formula that allows me to type the client's name in one cell and have the adjacent cell indicate that the name is, for example, in A50?

I tried to be as clear as possible, and I apologize for the little novel.

Hello,

There is a small search bar under Excel to search for a word in the spreadsheet.

On Mac, it is located at the top right "Find in sheet". You can also search across all sheets in the workbook using the shortcut cmd+f.

On Windows, tab "Home", "Find and Select", "Find".

The searched words should be highlighted.

You can also use filters.

If your table doesn't have filters yet, go to the "Data" tab and then click on "Filter".
You will then see a dropdown menu at the top of each column.

To search for a name, click on the arrow at the top of the name column and then type the beginning of the name in the "Search" field.

I found it (phew): I'm taking the example you gave: =MATCH("Jean",A2:A113,0)  It will return a number. If it says "7", your searched value is in A7. Let me know if it works!

Well, always the same answer, and in image so you can have the same pleasure:

But I strongly doubt that you were blocked from searching and filtering...
And I don't see why putting on a filter would require you to re-enter your password while a formula wouldn't (?!?)
I have the impression that you don't quite master Excel yet and that you should persist in getting search and filters to work.

In fact, in the company where I work, everything is hyper-secure, like the computers being located on the shelves and accessible to customers, so everything is secure; even to access the files, passwords are required, etc.

Otherwise, I'm sorry, I don't know how to attach an xls file as mentioned above.
