Hello, I just downloaded the Inkscape software to vectorize drawings and make them smoother, but I can't seem to use the software's vectorization feature. Either I've skipped a step or it’s a problem with the software. In any case, when I click the "OK" button in "vectorize bitmap" after selecting my drawing, nothing happens at all. If someone knows about this, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,
"[...] and well, nothing is happening at all"
Hmm... maybe something is happening after all (see the information bar at the bottom of the interface)...

Once your image is imported into Inkscape, keep it selected.
And in the "Trace Bitmap" window (Shift+Alt+B), check a mode according to the appearance of your image and adjust the settings if necessary.
Click "Update" to activate the tracing and then click "OK" to retrieve it.

In response to Lu-Hi and contrariness. I confirm that nothing is happening. The drawing is still pixelated after the operation. When I click on "validate", the information bar asks me to select an object to vectorize, which is what I do every time. On top of that, no preview is created in the designated window. I’m doing exactly what someone does in a tutorial on YouTube, except that in my case it’s not working. Could the software have been installed incorrectly?
What option did you choose for vectorization?
(threshold, detection, or quantification??)
It seems to me that you must first "update" before "confirming" for the trace to appear on the image in the document.

I have tried all the options and each time the reaction is the same. Nothing happens any more when I press "update" beforehand.
Good evening,
Curious… I've never encountered this kind of bug (although, with my "exotic" Linux systems and my "patchwork" portable Windows versions... :D )
--> is the image properly selected? (like in this screenshot http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1367587151.png )
--> how do you proceed? A new document in Inkscape and importing the image to be vectorized?
--> If it's not too much trouble, could you possibly upload the image to be vectorized here:
http://pix.toile-libre.org/
...and give me the link?
;)

Re,
"I had only been opening PDF files until now [...]"
Indeed...
I just did a test with a PDF containing images: when opening the document, they are considered as group, even if it's a group of a single object:

To select the image, just Ctrl+click on it. You can see in the status bar that now the image is selected:
