Word files converted to Open Office!!!

Hello,
I have OpenOffice Writer and Word Office (Windows) installed on my computer for some time now. Everything was working fine, but suddenly, all the documents I wrote in Word are now displayed as OpenOffice documents and are no longer readable in Word!!!
I don't understand, as I haven't done anything to cause this, and to be honest, it's really bothering me because I was considering uninstalling OpenOffice and I absolutely need to keep these documents that seem to have been converted without my knowledge.
How can I switch these documents back to Word? Will uninstalling OpenOffice render them permanently unreadable?

Thank you in advance for your help and advice,
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.2

Hello,

have you tried right-clicking on the Word document (or shift + right-click) and looking for the Word program in the window that appears and telling it to always open *.doc files with WORD?

Hello

What extension(s) do your documents have?
And what version of Word are you using?

For your information, Microsoft Office formats (Word, Excel...) are proprietary and complicated to open correctly. So it's this format that you should be unhappy with, not OpenOffice.

Why did you want to uninstall OpenOffice?

The extension doesn't show up; it just tells me that they are OpenOffice documents.
I'm using Word 2003.
And if I want to uninstall OpenOffice, it’s because I don’t need it since I have Office (I lost the program) and OpenOffice docs are not compatible with Word (which is a hassle when you want to send a document to someone since everyone works in Word).

Re

A document created or modified with OpenOffice is compatible with OpenOffice if it is saved in Microsoft Office format. Additionally, it can be saved in PDF format. The choice of format can be made when you go to File, Save As.

It seems to me that you have saved most of your documents in OpenDocument format. If you convert them to Microsoft Office format, you will be able to work on them with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.

Uninstalling OpenOffice before converting all your documents is pointless and would be a mistake. I advise you to keep OpenOffice (especially since there may still be OpenDocument files to open).

PS: It's much better to see the file extensions. To do this, go to My Documents, Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types."

Hello

I have converted my Open Office documents to PDF but I want to edit them. How can I perform the reverse operation, converting PDF back to Open Writer or work from a PDF document?

Thank you

The PDF is an output format and not an input format. You cannot retrieve a PDF in Writer. An import filter is planned in the upcoming 3.0 for the Draw module:

I tried to open them with Word, but my computer opens a file conversion window (and it suggests converting it to Japanese!!!)!
