Hello,
I have a CANON UC-V100 camcorder from 1998 and I have lost the manual. I would like to convert my Video 8 tapes to PC in order to burn them onto CD or DVD.
What equipment do I need (connectors, cables, adapters, possibly software), considering that my Asus PC is equipped with Movie Maker and Media Center card?
I have browsed the forums, but I haven't found any satisfactory answer(s).
Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Analog video transfer box
Hello, I copy my presentation 10 times a week: to transfer the content of an analog VHS, VHS-C, 8mm, Hi8 tape, or an analog video stream, you need to connect the camcorder or VCR or other device to an "external box" that handles the "hardware" conversion of the analog stream into "digital" and we connect the box to the computer using a USB cable. The file is converted to MPEG2, a format easy to burn and compatible with all players, and allows for editing with "Studio."
Connect the box and the camcorder or VCR using an S-VHS connection which is recommended, or composite (less good) (RCA yellow) and a cord for sound (2 RCA red, white). For the VCR, you need a SCART connection with an adapter or cord with the "out" direction, or a switchable in/out output S-VHS or composite RCA yellow (less good) plus sound, two RCA outputs red, white.
Remember to select PAL to get color.
I recommend the Dazzle box either "Recorder" DVD only or HD Video Creator, or Platinum depending on your needs if you want to "arrange" your films with titles and music.
The price of the advanced editing software STUDIO 14 HD (worth €61 alone) provided with this box in "Creator" and "Platinum" versions makes the product interesting.
It can be easily resold on the web when you no longer need it.
There are exotic products like USB sticks and 4 wires, cheaper but be careful, they are often a source of trouble, reading messages from desperate members on the forum.
The format being 4:3, the image quality can only be judged on a living room TV screen. The link:

I will start looking for the recommended equipment and will get back to you to share the results.
I have about thirty V8 tapes and I believe it’s worth investing in. The memory and emotion of revisiting the past moments is well worth it.
Best regards.
I'm reaching out to inform you of the result of my quest.
Following your advice, I purchased the Pinnacle DVD Recorder software through a second-hand sales website.
Unfortunately, this software only allows direct DVD burning and not hard drive recording. I managed to copy a tape to the hard drive using Windows Movie Maker, but I only have the video and no sound.
The main thing for me is that I understood thanks to your explanations how the mechanism works; now I just need to find the right equipment for copying tapes to the hard drive.
Thank you again for sharing your expertise.
Best regards.
