UTorrent issue, files disappearing...

Hello,
I've been having a big problem with my computer for a few days now..
I've been using Utorrent for a while, but for the last two days, the files I'm downloading literally disappear from the computer. Let me explain: my default storage folder is "Downloads", but the files I start downloading via torrent no longer appear there, although they are still downloading. If I close Utorrent or pause a torrent, when I restart it, an error message appears in the progress bar, "Error: Download status" for the torrent. If I try again, the message changes to "Error: missing file"...
Sometimes when I restart my PC and Utorrent, and I forcefully start the torrent, it resumes, but it’s nowhere to be found...
When I try to display the download location, it opens "My Documents" instead of "Downloads", but there are only the files that existed before, so the downloaded file isn't there...
More puzzling still, when I check the details of a downloaded file in Utorrent and click on open, it opens..
With the Windows search tool, I lose the file again, but when I click on it, it says it's a "missing shortcut", I check its location: :C\Windows\System32\1 but there is no "1" file in System32...

Thank you in advance!

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 25.0.1364.152

Thank you for the ultra-fast response!
I only updated Avast; apart from that, there have been no config changes or anything like that. On my main internal disk...
It seems that there is no longer a target folder, the "save new downloads" box is unchecked, and there is no target... this would explain why it's no longer in downloads... but what happens to the downloaded files?

I don't know, in my opinion, they are destroyed at the end of the download (the protocol creates temporary files to reserve the necessary disk space and destroys them upon finalization).

Reset all settings to default. At worst: uninstall and reinstall.

Also check that Avast hasn't changed your firewall settings and blocked bt along the way.

Ok, I'll do that, but is there any way to recover the files that are still present? I finished one a few minutes ago, and it is still shared, so it should be recoverable...

If you right-click on it and choose (open the reception folder), what does it say?

It brings me to the personal file, where we have office, contacts, my documents, downloads, etc.

and obviously there’s no download in there... Check the different save paths of BT and verify each location to see what you find

As a last resort, search the whole computer, and look for your file. You might find it in a weird place.

Is there something that has changed in your configuration? Check the target folders for your downloads and torrents?

Are you not sending them to an external drive whose letter might have changed by any chance?
