Connect to the internet but web page unavailable

Question

Hello,

I have a rather strange problem since last night!

Indeed, for no particular reason, I can no longer browse web pages... But the internet is definitely present.

To eliminate or at least pinpoint the issue, I must specify that another computer, a tablet, and an iPhone are on the network and have no problems whatsoever.

The PC that has the problem cannot load any web page across all browsers, but I can use Skype, Teamspeak, torrent, and ping without any issues, so the connection is indeed present.

I’ve tried several solutions! I even ended up formatting it (with the only backup being the user files), but 30 minutes later, the issue was back.

Two little tricks allowed me to get internet back intermittently.

I have two network cards, one for Wi-Fi and one for Ethernet; if I disable the one currently in use and enable the other, access to pages works for about one minute.

The second solution is safe mode with network support, which has no issues at all...

I have, of course, checked the startup programs and services using msconfig, but nothing works...

So I’m turning to the internet for a possible solution!!!

It’s probably your p2p software that's hogging all your bandwidth since you can connect without the software running

Here I am again with this issue and some important information!!!  I managed to roughly locate the problem....  The restriction on accessing web pages occurs when I launch a Torrent software.  Whether I’m downloading/uploading or not, once the software is open, I can no longer connect to web pages (however, everything else works, Skype, TeamViewer, TeamSpeak, various games, ...)  So here it is, I'm bringing the topic back! If anyone has information or ideas, I'm all ears.

I don't think it's a bandwidth issue  I have a connection of 47 megabits for download and 2.4 for upload  and when I launch uTorrent for example and the program is idle (no uploads, no downloads) the pages are inaccessible, whereas with my connection I should be able to display them....

For formatting ... I did it in a simple way ==> booted from a USB key containing Windows 7

In the disk selection menu, I chose my disk and formatted it

Once again, I don't think it's a bandwidth issue ....

Furthermore, when I want to access a web page, there are no problems; I start torrent, count to 5, and then nothing works ... I stop torrent, count to 5, and everything works again ...

Finally, when I say nothing works, it's only the access to web pages that doesn't work ... other software like Skype, Teamspeak, or even pings in command prompt work without any problems.

Yes, as with any OS, there are several partitions, not several disks...

The 100MB partition + the main system partition which is here around 120GB +-

I made sure to format both before deleting them and creating a new partition (2 since Windows always needs that little 100MB partition).

In reality, the 100 MB partition is used for starting the PC, which then redirects you to the second partition to boot Windows. If you delete this partition, Windows will not boot unless you set its partition to "active". If you don't create it during installation, Windows will create it automatically. Hmm, the solution of stopping P2P is not very feasible...

If it were just torrents, there would be no problem.

However, currently peer-to-peer technology is used in many games... for downloading/sharing the client.

So I need to find a solution if I don't want to have reduced access when my game launchers are updating...

There must be an issue with your network configuration, however, I think you should ask the "networks" section, they should be able to guide you better.

A brief summary

The problem:
- When a P2P technology is launched (torrent, launcher for certain video games, etc.), I cannot access web pages. If I stop the program using the P2P technology, the web pages return to normal after about 5 seconds.
- The loss of connection only affects web pages; Skype, TeamSpeak, etc., still work perfectly fine.

Solutions already tried:
- Formatting
- Reinstalling uTorrent
- Setting a fixed IP

Note:
- Pings still work without any loss
- This occurs even if the P2P software is not downloading/uploading anything
- I have 47 mbits in download and 2.3 mbits in upload
- This happens on all computers on the network (as long as the PC is running the P2P software)

Unfortunately not, I had written this when I didn't know yet that the problem was the P2P; I just tested it again to make sure, but in safe mode with network support... if P2P software OFF ==> internet ON if P2P software ON ==> internet OFF

Hi

It's because your Upload is set too high; you need to limit µTorrent to 10 KB/s below your maximum upload rate (be careful with conversions between KO/S and KBP/S), otherwise, it blocks all your internet traffic.

No, the problem does not come from the torrent upload because it takes more than 5 seconds for a P2P software to find the sources and reach its maximum :p

Moreover, here the software has a maximum upload of 50 KB out of 280 available (2.3 mbits)

So change software and you'll see.

Uh no, the problem doesn't come from uTorrent... but from Peer to Peer technology as I mentioned earlier....

All it takes is for me to use software that relies on this technology for the problem to occur...

You might ask me what uses peer to peer other than torrents?

A few examples:
League of Legends uses P2P technology to download and update the client

Tera (MMORPG) uses the technology in the same way

War Thunder, an online flight game, also uses this technology

etc... etc... all these programs that use Peer to Peer technology block my connection to web pages when they are active....

EDIT: Furthermore, P2P isn't particularly different from direct downloads (IN TERMS OF VIRUSES)!!! Yes, if you download a game/video/music from a "dubious" site, you shouldn't be surprised to get viruses... however, some sites are more reliable than others, as has always been the case :) I’m not particularly afraid of viruses... I don't mind formatting my disk if necessary... but here, it’s not a virus...

@g3n: well, I didn't quite understand the question ^^  What do you mean by "are they well on the network or is there nothing at the end..."  Is the program connecting??  If that's the question, the program that uses the P2P protocol works very well, after a few minutes of waiting to find the sources, they start downloading/uploading normally :)  If that wasn't what you meant, could you rephrase your question? :p
