What is "Realtek stereo mix"?

Hello,

I just found this in the sound settings. It was disabled, I enabled it but I don't know what it is;
thank you.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 23.0.1271.97

It's the mixer, or Realtek audio manager, a software that should be located in the quick launch bar on startup to modify the sound channels and apply effects. It's not essential, especially if you're using a different sound card than Realtek, which explains why it was disabled.
