Hi,
is it possible to restore all the necessary files for the proper functioning of Windows XP from another system (in my case, Linux) by executing some actions to copy/paste data from the Windows XP installation disk to the right places...?
The repair method proposed by the CD when I boot from it does not work (it crashes).
Formatting is not an option.
Thank you.

where does your XP go when you normally start it?
have you tried F8 at startup?
can you start in safe mode?

Hi,
I see the beginning of the loading screen with the logo and the blue bar advancing, but only for a fraction of a second, then the computer restarts.
I tried all the modes offered with F8; none work better than the others.
So, safe mode doesn't work either.

Good evening,
so no restore points :-(
I tried the repair again with the installation CD but upon reboot, it crashes at the Windows loading screen with this error message:

And in safe mode it doesn't want to continue the installation upon reboot:

I just reached the same conclusion more or less while reading threads on English-speaking forums...
Just out of curiosity, is there a "generic" SATA driver? I could check on another XP installation to see if I can copy the *.sys file associated with a SATA controller, but for that, I need to know its name.
In the meantime, I will try chkdsk /f/r, but I don't know if it stands a chance of solving the problem.
Another idea would be to switch the disk to IDE mode in the BIOS. I will try that too.
Thank you.

At this point, it doesn't cost anything to switch to IDE; see what that does, and go back to SATA later if it doesn't work.
EDIT: I was already on IDE before... So the problem doesn't come from there since Windows loads a generic IDE driver during installation/repair. The disk is supposed to work, so
.

I suppose it's the "AMD RAID Driver ...."? Or one of the things in the "chipset" category? I don't really know... I will already check if I can find a floppy disk drive (!).
