How to disable automatic character deletion?

Hello,
I’m really frustrated because I’m writing a text on Word and I can’t insert a character in the middle of a line without erasing another character.
I don’t know if it’s a function that I can disable.
Additionally, since I bought my computer in China, everything is written in Chinese (I don’t even know where to look).
If anyone can help me,
