Hello,

I have a Mac Pro Book and I am using Word.
Horizontal lines are embedding themselves in my document and I can't remove them.
I tried disabling the borders but that doesn't change anything, and I also tried ctrl+A with no luck.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thank you

Hello,

do you often use dashes? Because by entering a bunch of dashes --- and pressing the enter key, it creates a horizontal line.

Windows has not detected any keyboard. Press Enter to continue.
Huh?

According to your description, I think it is indeed about replacing a sequence of three (or more) dashes with a line as aiglenoirdu29 presumed above.

Try it yourself:
- on an empty line, type two dashes (minus sign) and then press Enter. In principle, you should see exactly what you just typed.

- on an empty line, type three dashes (minus sign) and then press Enter. This time, you should see a continuous line replace the dashes. This line has the characteristics you describe (the movement arrows)

These lines simply disappear by positioning yourself at the beginning of the next line and pressing the delete key.

If you really want to see four dashes on a line, you can do a "Command-Z" (or click on the undo tool or through the "Edit" menu > "Undo") immediately after the automatic replacement.

I must admit I don't know if this "automatic formatting" can be disabled (I certainly haven't found it)...

Could you describe the situation and context more precisely? Which version of Word, what level of update,...

Where and how do these bars appear? Anywhere, at the end of a page, a paragraph? Are these bars independent objects (that can be selected, moved) or artifacts (display defects that disappear when the document's view is refreshed)? Do they appear on a printout (or on a PDF)? Do they appear on any document (including a completely blank sheet) or on a specific document?

The bars appear anywhere in the document, but I feel like they always come in pairs.
When I hover the mouse over the line, I get the following symbol: two arrows (one pointing up, the other down, separated by a horizontal line).
They appear when printing, but if I create another document, I don't have this issue; it's just that this is my template file, and I copy and paste from it.
I have Word for Mac, version 14.1.4.
