The display does not fill the entire screen Solved

Question

Hello,I just bought a new screen: Samsung S22B350H and I connected it via VGA while waiting to get an HDMI cable.With VGA, the display is normal, but as soon as I switched to HDMI, the display doesn't fill the whole screen: there's a black border of about 2-3cm on the sides and about 2cm on the top and bottom. I checked and the display is indeed set to 1080p (well, not really since all the pixels aren't being used :-o) and I can't see what could have caused this.Are there different versions of HDMI cables, and could mine not be 100% compatible or...???Thank you for your help.Nicolas

Yes for the first part of your question (but that has nothing to do with your problem), and no for the second part.

Just adjust your screen for a correct digital display, or even do the 'detection' on the graphics card side.

My graphics card is sending a 1080p signal and I tried to set the screen to auto image size and wide (full screen) but it doesn't change anything.
And the "auto" button on the front for automatic image adjustment doesn't work, it shows me: "automatic adjustment: unavailable"
I looked on the manufacturer's website (Samsung) where everything (or almost everything) is explained in detail, but nothing works.
So I have a display of 18" instead of 22" and no HD...
I also tried resetting it (in case I made a wrong manipulation) but it doesn’t change anything...

Hey,
I think it comes from your resolution. Your Samsung SyncMaster screen supports a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. Can you make sure you have changed your graphics card resolution to 1920 x 1080?

By going to display/screen resolution, it shows 1920*1080.
As for the cable, it was an old cable dating back several years, surely that has nothing to do with it?
There's also something I find strange: my screensaver is the default one: the bubbles bouncing all over the screen, but the bubbles don't stop at the edge of the display but at the edge of the screen...without being visible in the black frame...

Re,  Do you mean that your entire screen is used in sleep mode? What is your OS? And your GPU?

Yes, the whole screen seems to be in use, but there's still the black border.
I'm on Windows 7 SP1 (I don't know if there are several versions), and my graphics card is the HD7870, but I believe I've seen that my desktop is managed by the processor (i7 3770). I switched it so that the display would be handled by the GPU, but it didn't change anything, so I switched it back. (I modified my post above: "the bubbles don't stop at the edge of the display but at the edge of the screen...without being visible in the black border... it should be clearer now.")

Is there an option available on your TV called auto adjustment? If so, try it.
If your screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio, you can try 1600×900.
Otherwise, can you successively decrease the resolution of your desktop from W7 and post your results here (does the image stretch across the entire screen? etc.).

1776*1000: same thing (black border of the same size)
1680*1050: border on the right and left of about 3cm (no border at the bottom or at the top)
1600*900: no border (but poor resolution and therefore poor quality)
1440*900: the same as 1680*1050

Yes, I had noticed this software but I hadn't found that (and I don't have the same layout as you but that's okay).
I had a sub-scan set to about 8% that I changed to 0% and now my entire screen is being used!

Last question: am I indeed at 1920*1080 this time? It's not a low-quality image that has been enlarged, is it?

Perfect :) Make sure to be in 1920*1080 by right-clicking on your desktop and then selecting "screen resolution".
