Illustrator file opening issue

Question

Hello everyone,

I have a big issue with Illustrator CS6 which won't open a document for me and shows this error message: "Cannot read the file because the external module cannot interpret this file." The file in question is an Ai file that I created a few weeks ago on this Illustrator...

What can I do?

Rename it to PDF, try to open it in Acrobat and from Acrobat save it as EPS to open it again in Illustrator.

If Illustrator is looking for an external module, it means that there is a plugin that no longer exists, or that it has been moved...

Normally in the error message you should have the name of the missing module... Also check if it hasn't been disabled by any chance.

Illustrator only shows me this message. I haven't touched the plugins or anything else...  How can I check if the plugins are properly installed?

I didn't install CS6, but it should be the same as always in the "Edit/Preferences/External Modules and Disk" menu....

What's strange is that normally, if an external module is missing, a small window opens with a white background listing the missing modules

Make sure you are connected to the Adobe server.

Also try renaming your file with the PDF or EPS extension, then attempt to open them from Illustrator.

If you create another file, close it, and reopen it, do you have the same problem??

No, the other Illustrator files work normally...

I changed the extensions, renamed the file, nothing works... Illustrator doesn't want to know...

For the modules, I reset them, it doesn't change anything
