Illustrator File I/O Error 5

Hello,

I'm working on files in Illustrator 5, everything was working fine, I was saving my progress when suddenly, saving became impossible and an I/O FILE ERROR message appears with every attempt. I tried to save the files under a different name, also impossible.

I'm urgently seeking help that wouldn't require a reboot, I'm far too advanced!

    An I/O error looks like a writing issue on the disk..!

    Try changing the target by saving to a USB key or an external drive to see if it works...

    If auto-saving has been enabled, there might be a chance to recover the work if nothing else works...

      Thank you very much, I had indeed tried as a last resort to save it on an external hard drive and it really works…

      Between us, a disk that has once posed an I/O error is not a reliable disk... Caution for the future.

      I had the same thing happen to me while saving to a USB drive... It turns out there wasn’t enough space on the drive to save the changes, so my USB isn’t ready to be thrown away yet!
