My laptop burned out.

Hello,

I'm reaching out for your help because I accidentally spilled Coke on my laptop keyboard. It was everywhere, even underneath the laptop. Out of reflex, I cleaned the Coke off the keyboard and powered it down, and at that moment, the screen “fried.” It stayed on but was crackling. I then instinctively turned off the laptop as well. I've been waiting and then tried to turn it back on, but... it won't turn on anymore. It's been an hour since this accident happened, and the laptop battery is drying out.

What should I do? Should I take the laptop to a repair shop? Or is it hopeless?
And most importantly: can I recover my data after such an accident?

    First of all, the bad news.

    I regret to inform you that given the extent of the damage you describe, there is almost no chance that you will ever be able to reuse this laptop.

    It’s highly likely that your motherboard is fried, and on a laptop, that simply means it’s dead.

    Now for the "good news."

    The hard drive is generally well protected against this kind of accident, so you can probably recover it unscathed; and thus your data as well (unless in particular cases where you may have encrypted your data via the OS).

    You may also be able to recover some components if you have use for them.

      If I leave the battery and the laptop to dry and take it to a repair shop later, will it have a chance of survival?

      Well, I have a chance from what I see. So soaking the PC in water works, does it? I didn't believe it.

      You should not soak the entire PC; you need to disassemble the keyboard and soak only the keyboard.

    I just want to report that my PC has finally survived the coke. The damage couldn't have been that serious, after all.
