Slow startup in Firefox Solved

Question

Hi everyone,

Firefox was taking forever to start, first a white page, then my startup page (Google) froze along with the whole machine for one or two minutes... Annoying...

Here's how I solved the problem.

ATTENTION firefox MUST be closed
=> Start Menu
=> Run: Firefox.exe -ProfileManager
Press OK

Firefox profile manager appears,
=> Create a new profile... And that's it... With this new profile Firefox starts instantly. The only problem is losing the data from the previous profile (passwords, browsing history, Bookmarks) but for me it's a minor issue compared to a browser that runs smoothly :-))

Hello,

having encountered the same problem and since the previously proposed solution proved ineffective, I’m contributing with what saved me:

Tools/modules add-ons / disable "Java Quick Starter".

It is a Java tool meant to speed up the opening of Java applets and applications, but it turned out to be the cause of a substantial slowdown when opening Firefox (about twenty seconds between clicking the icon and the software opening).

Hi there,

I have the same problem as the one you described, except I’m on Vista, so there’s no "Run" function in the menu, and even after doing a search for "profile manager" I can’t find anything...

Do you happen to know how to fix this problem?

At my place, the causes of Firefox's slow startup were the Scrapbook add-on. My storage folders were too large... I have since created a new profile in Firefox using the Profileswitcher add-on. I installed Scrapbook in the new profile and I only use it there when I need it.

Do not install the "facebook touch panel" module on Firefox; it makes Firefox start up and popups extremely slow.

it's an old topic, resolved, but the subject is still relevant. therefore I allow myself to enrich it with my personal experience...

My Firefox was very slow to start (about 20 seconds to launch).

I tried the boopk trick, I created a new profile this way, but I kept my old profile, and I tried to relaunch Firefox with the old profile after first starting it with the new profile.

Launching with the new profile was very fast (but almost all modules are deleted with the new profile, so of course it's fast).

What is surprising here, and where this trick is interesting, is that now, when I launch Firefox with the old profile and all its modules, it starts almost as fast as with the new profile.

I have no rational explanation for this, but in any case this is what happened for me. I’m relating it here so that it can help others, and perhaps the Firefox developers will inform us about this and work on speed.

It should be noted that for several years now, Firefox (or Chrome, by the way) easily uses 200 to 300 MB of RAM. If you run like me with 1 GB, it quickly becomes problematic...
