Slow startup in Firefox

Solved

Hi everyone,

Firefox was taking forever to start, first a white page, then my startup page (Google) froze along with the whole machine for one or two minutes... Annoying...

Here's how I solved the problem.

ATTENTION firefox MUST be closed
=> Start Menu
=> Run: Firefox.exe -ProfileManager
Press OK

Firefox profile manager appears,
=> Create a new profile... And that's it... With this new profile Firefox starts instantly. The only problem is losing the data from the previous profile (passwords, browsing history, Bookmarks) but for me it's a minor issue compared to a browser that runs smoothly :-))

See you,
Yann.

Configuration: Windows 95 Firefox 2.0.0.1

Hello,

having encountered the same problem and since the previously proposed solution proved ineffective, I’m contributing with what saved me:

Tools/modules add-ons / disable "Java Quick Starter".

It is a Java tool meant to speed up the opening of Java applets and applications, but it turned out to be the cause of a substantial slowdown when opening Firefox (about twenty seconds between clicking the icon and the software opening).

See: http://www.java.com/fr/download/help/quickstarter.xml

Hope this helps.

Hello everyone, I’d like to add that this damned module is even able to block links from the search page!
I was typing a search whatever it was, I clicked on one of the links, and I could wait an hour, nothing would open...
in the address line, there were a lot of additions, mostly replacements of the symbol "/" by "%2" and other strange things, which tipped me off!...
I tested rebuilding the true address by removing the extras and replacing "%2" with "/" and it worked, so I suspected that a script was making all this get tangled, so I disabled the module
"Java Quick Starter" and since then it runs fine by itself...
it’s really starting to annoy when you know it only did that from Google, because while I had the problem, I did the same searches from Yahoo, and like magic it worked from there!!!
I wonder if this isn’t a little war between Yahoo (Microsoft) (and yes, Yahoo and Microsoft teamed up to counter Google with their famous Bing!!!) (type into your search: Yahoo Microsoft search engine and you’ll see for yourself!) and Google, because moreover, for several days Gmail has had lots of problems (since Monday as far as I could read)
in my opinion there’s hacking going on there! and it won’t stop there!
to be continued then...

Hi there!
Me too, I was cursing as I had to endure Firefox opening slowly. I tried all the proposed solutions one after another, with no notable improvement, until...
McAfee is installed on my machine. While digging through the firewall settings, and reviewing program permissions, I noticed that Firefox was only allowed outbound traffic. I granted full permission, and ever since, Firefox opens almost instantly. Here’s hoping it lasts... and that it helps others.
