Internal hard drive not detected 1 time out of 2

Hello,

I have two hard drives connected via SATA to my Asrock G43 full motherboard. Both hard drives work; however, the hard drive containing the BIOS is detected only every other time. When I first turn on my PC and go to the boot menu to choose the boot disk, it does not appear, but when I restart, the disk is detected.

How can I fix this issue?

I also have another problem: when I go to the start menu to shut down the computer, it takes 5 minutes to show me the second small window where I can sign out, sleep, or shut down the computer. I also noticed that when I watch a 1-hour video, the computer will freeze by itself, and I won’t be able to use it as soon as I finish my video (because the video continues to play, but everything else freezes).

How can we resolve this problem? That’s a lot of issues^^
Best regards.

Configuration: Motherboard: AsRock G43Twins-FullHD with Intel GMA X 4500 1GB
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz
Screen: ACER P221W 22"

Hi,

Have you set your hard drive to "master" and not "slave"? This can be adjusted using the small jumper located at the back.

But to be honest, I doubt that's the issue; in my opinion, the problem lies with the hard drive. Try reinstalling the OS on the other one to see.

Best regards,
Alex

It's happening again just like before. I run chkdsk and it works for 2 hours, and then it starts all over again...

In my opinion, your hard drive is dead; it must have taken a hit. How is it positioned? Flat or on its side? Knowing that hard drives placed on their side have a reduced lifespan, I advise you to back up everything you have and then buy a new one, because if it stops working after two hours, it could be due to overheating or motor fatigue...

Thank you, but I've reinstalled the operating system and everything works fine now, even after being on for 2 hours, it doesn't bug and it detects the hard drive on every startup :)

The OS could prevent the detection of the disk 1 time out of 2? Plus, I've already done a repair but oh well :s

At worst, run a Check Disk, open cmd and type CHKDSK/F, it will find and repair errors.

Thank you, it worked! I had already tried it once with the Windows CD but was unsuccessful, thanks ;)
