IEEE 1394 Connection and USB Port

I'm exactly in the same situation,
on the new PC (Windows 7) I don't have a FireWire 1394 port anymore.
I'm connecting the Panasonic DV camera via USB.
With Windows Live Movie Maker and Nero Vision, my camera is recognized and I can retrieve the films from the DV tape to my PC.
However, with Pinnacle Studio 15, nothing works; Pinnacle does not recognize the USB connection with a DV tape camera.

Hello Roddy, what you’re telling me surprises me because all my sources say that the USB should not be used as the bandwidth is insufficient
and the result will be at best mediocre, and the fact that you have a DV camcorder to USB cable also confuses me because only the photo files from the camcorder can be transferred

Indeed, online I read "on a DV (or HDV) camcorder, this USB connection is only used to offer the Webcam function, transfer photos or possibly mini-films of really degraded quality. Therefore, on a DV (or HDV) camcorder, you should NOT import video through this USB port: to do so, use the DV port"
I am therefore considering acquiring a PCI combo USB Firewire 1394 card. I hope it will be easily recognized by the system.
