How to change a DVD from Zone 1 to Zone 2?

from the Lost season and Lisa's Destiny. Unfortunately my DVD player refuses to read my disc
because I ordered it from France.
I tried to read and understand the answers before but.....it's complicated....

I have always found this DVD zone coding to be incomprehensibly stupid.

Why?

Because on the European market there are players that are totally multi-zone or configurable as such with a few remote control presses.

Because it is child’s play to remove this "protection" when copying the DVD with a PC burner.

But... we do not know the brand and model of your home player.

So if I understand correctly, my DVD player is locked to region 2 and with DVD Shrink I insert my region 1 DVD into my region 2 DVD player and I rip it without any problem?
Does this work with any version of DVD Shrink?

you can do it with DVD Shrink of course, otherwise you can use AnyDVD to decrypt the DVD and be able to read it on a home theater player. I’ve done it several times (King Kong, Bambi 2...) without any issues!
ps: Copy first onto a DVD+RW just in case...

Personally, I have been using AnyDVD for several years to remove copy protections from DVDs & CDs, and CloneDVD to remove the region and make the disc readable by any home DVD player, whether it is region 2 or 1.

I took a quick look at Philips' support site, since it contains all the user manuals for this kind of player, as well as their specifications.

It is originally designed for Zone 2. It does support the American NTSC standard (which makes these zone stories even more ridiculous).

There would be a procedure to region-free it:

In the absence of help from another contributor who could provide a correct link, we’ll have to go to plan B:

- rip the original DVD to a hard drive using the DVD Shrink program, which, among other things, allows you to select the audio language you want, extract the main film, put any bonuses on a second DVD, etc.

This program lets you create a multizone DVD from an original DVD, which is what you want to do.

- In the same program, save this work as an ISO image.

- burn this image to a blank ordinary DVD+R(W).

So you need on your PC, or a friend’s, a drive capable of handling this type of blank DVD. Note that Philips stand-alone players are able to read -R DVDs, but I have personally always worked with the + ones.

There might be protections on the DVDs you receive, but that will only be verifiable once you have them in your possession.

There is also a third solution: acquire a multizone player. There are now ones at very competitive prices.

Since DVD Shrink stopped in 2005 I think, the latest anti-piracy protections will be effective.
