problem installing chrome extension Solved

Hello,

I am using Windows XP Pro / Chrome

I just reinstalled XP Pro (a clean installation, without any issues). I installed Google Chrome without a problem, but when I tried to install extensions, none of them worked. I click on "Add to Chrome", it shows the confirmation window, I click OK and nothing happens: the "Add to Chrome" tab changes to "Waiting for confirmation", but no extension gets installed.
This happens whether Chrome is my default browser or not. I also uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled it, but it didn't change anything.

Does anyone have any ideas, please? Thank you in advance for your help!

You need a "Downloads" folder in "My Documents".

Same for the themes! It's impossible to install any extensions or themes!
I really don't understand what's happening.

On another note, Avast offers a plugin for browsers. In the Avast interface, I installed the plugin on Chrome. Avast tells me that the installation was successful, but it doesn't appear on Chrome.

I unfortunately have the same issue since I installed Chrome 16 yesterday.
It's a shame because I was just one step away from permanently leaving Firefox...
But without extensions, Chrome doesn't hold up...

They need to fix this very quickly...

Yeah... So the problem seems to come from Google and only affects new installations of Chrome (if Jo could confirm).
I've been using Chrome on another PC for a long time and for testing, I uninstalled my extensions and then reinstalled: result, no problem, everything works normally.
I uninstalled Chrome again today. I even went as far as deleting the Chrome folder in "application data" after uninstallation, then reinstalled, but still unable to install extensions.
I went to the Chrome forum, but the posts are only accessible to registered users?!

If anyone has any info! Thanks.

I had the same problem, and I solved it as follows:

Actually, Chrome wants to save the extension in C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR NAME IN UPPERCASE]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\ETC .....

But if your Windows user account was created with lowercase letters, the directory is in lowercase, hence the error from Chrome trying to install its extension on YOUR NAME IN UPPERCASE.

So, I bypassed the issue by accessing another user account on my computer, then I changed the directory to MY NAME in uppercase, and then I logged back into my session.

And now, no more problems, the extensions install very easily

There you go! I hope this helps others. For me, it didn't work. I tried the first procedure, it works, but in Documents & Settings, it's still showing my old name. I tried the second procedure, but my issue is that my user account is already set as "admin". So, I can't "copy to".

In conclusion: if someone has the same problem with installing their extensions and manages to solve the issue with the above solution, please let me know, I might consider reinstalling XP.
Otherwise, if someone has a solution for my user account that is actually my admin account...

Correction:
I managed to create a second admin account with a name in uppercase and I transferred the old account to the new one, then deleted the old one. Result: Chrome extensions still do not install...
I'm going to end up uninstalling Chrome from all my PCs because I'm so disgusted. Plus, it's starting to get urgent, I have work to do, and if Chrome doesn't work, I will definitely switch to another browser...

in case...
some extensions do not install if a user has not been declared in chrome (no "default" folder)

do not confuse a user session (in the google page, webmail etc.) which can be temporary, and the chrome user (in the settings, possibly with chrome synchronization)

and in case of an infernal problem (error message on the user)
-+- go to bookmarks, export, as an html file
-+- note your extensions

uninstall chrome, search for the word chrome and delete everything, possibly clean the registry to remove references to chrome (with a utility)
reinstall chrome, the bookmarks and after declaring the user, the extensions... or activate sync to recover the bookmarks, extensions etc. saved on other devices or chrome works and is synced
