Hello,
I'm replying to hornet1976:
For the output container, it should be mp4 and not avi; otherwise, you're not changing the file format (avi is the format of your source file, not the format of the output file after re-encoding, which you want to be mp4).
For the output video codec (video codec of the output file), it’s correct: mpeg-4.
For the output audio codec (audio codec of the output file), set it to AAC.
For video scale size, set it to: no change.
Keep the other parameters at default: video bitrate at 1248 kbps and audio bitrate at 64 kbps, with sampling frequency at 44100.
It should work now. Good luck!

Good evening,
Well, well, I also have a similar problem: I recently acquired a mpix-355 500 Go, thinking I was getting a good deal to play my mpg files on the TV (files recorded on the PC's hard drive via FreeBox and Free Multimedia Center).
Well, while the files transfer without issue to the mpix, there's nothing I can do to view them on the TV: the files show up in the menu but when you click to start them, you only get sound! No video! (whereas on the PC they play perfectly with VLC, PowerProducer, WinAmp and others...)
Since it smells like a codec issue, I did a bit of digging: MediaInfo gives me the video characteristics: MPEG2; this format is indeed listed in the Storex documentation.
The support team I contacted gave me the same response: data too compressed (as if!) and the need to re-encode with RI4M.
But I'm much less interested in that because if I have to re-encode every time I record mpg on the PC (in mp4 or divx for example), with the time it takes for each re-encoding... I might as well just burn it directly to DVD (especially since my DVD player accepts the mpg file format as it is!)
I have a strong impression that STOREX is somewhat overstating its compatible formats when it claims MPEG, MPEG1 & MPEG2.
When contacted, they respond to me but always miss the point!
Sincerely,

If you can't find your files, click on the "setup" button on your remote and in the "sort" section, set it to sort by folders (this is to be done when you have the menu on screen).
There you go, see you later!

I have just acquired a DD MPIX-355 that works correctly; however, I have a problem with the USB. My PC is equipped with USB 2.0, the DD operates in USB 2.0 (as stated in the documentation) but when connected to the PC, it correctly detects the DD as a high-speed device (USB 2.0) but tells me that there is no high-speed port available for the DD, so the DD works but at low speed (USB 1.1). Have you encountered a similar problem? Thank you for your help.
thank you for your response...... it suits me well...... but we must not forget to turn it off and turn it back on after entering the menu...... (at first I turned it off then back on, and I thought it wasn't working for me)........
for your problem, try changing the USB port because your PC only has a certain number of high-speed USB ports and they may all be occupied.......

Hi jeje,
Glad I could help you out.
As for my problem, there’s no solution. I tested all my ports one by one, I unplugged all my USB peripherals to leave only the disk, and it’s still the same (low speed). I uninstalled all my USB ports (USB Universal Host Controller Rev 5 or later VIA) and then rebooted my machine. All the ports were detected and reinstalled, but the problem is still there. All my drivers are up to date. The PC runs on XP Home Edition SP2. (Everything needed for it to work is there, but it’s not working!!!!!!)
I tested the MPIX-355 on another PC: same symptoms (notably, on this PC, an external multimedia disk from another brand works properly!!)
So I’m wondering if the cause of the problem might be the USB cable itself. (The HDD is well detected in USB2, but could the cable be limiting the speed?)

slt VANARN......... I don’t really know what to say to you, this thing seems pretty weird...... the only thing I can suggest is to go to the STOREX website and check out the online technical support........ explain your problem well and they’ll get back to you by email within 48 hours..... they really do respond because I tried for the problem I had without expecting a reply, but I was surprised to receive an email from them.......... I think you have nothing to lose trying that........... @+
Hi!
I'm looking to buy a media hard drive, so I'm doing some research...
On Pixmania, I saw the Storex and it looks like it has a screen, but it doesn't mention it in the description...
So does it have one or not?
Thank you!

Hello,
I just read your message, I have the same problem – the interface and the movies are in black and white... I'm glad to have read the solution to my problem, I immediately tried the SETUP > PREFERENCE procedure but on my interface "Preference" is not active (it's grayed out) :-( How did you manage to make it active? It's also an MPIX 355 Storex
Thank you for your answers...

Hi everyone, same problem, formatting in FAT32 with the Storex utility recognized by the system but impossible to copy anything onto it. Disassembled, connected directly via SATA in my tower, works fine under XP and Vista. FAT32 formatting from my tower works great as an internal hard drive. Arghhhh! Remounted in the Storex enclosure and same issue, impossible to copy anything. Haaaaaaaaaaa, Storex, what a piece of junk! How to make money, lol, sell Storex, what a scam. So I bought a Samsung We Media which is much more reliable and much more efficient.
Hello,
In the manual it says:
In the "DISPLAY MENU", you have the choice
between two options: "BY FOLDERS" and "BY FILES".
I can't seem to get to this menu, could someone please help me?
Thanks!

for Tank1,
actually in the manual they are mistaken for this command, I don't know why.............but it is simply a button on your remote called "FILE"........if the screen displays by file like at every startup of your hard drive, you have to press this button to switch it to folder mode, and vice versa..........

Good evening, a month ago I bought a Storex Club Mpix-252 120GB hard drive. After the purchase, everything was working fine. The file transfer was working and I could watch my movies on my television........But a week ago I wanted to transfer files to the hard drive. When I connected it via USB 2.0, the computer made the connection sound, but when I opened my computer, the hard drive icon was not displayed. I went to check the device manager, the hard drive was displayed there but the manager said, "The device cannot start (code 10)." I then uninstalled the device and when I reinstalled it, during the automatic installation by Windows, the message "An error occurred during the installation. The device may not function properly." appeared in the status bar. And the same problem as before then occurs in tasks.......... I don't know what to do anymore.... If someone could help me it would be very kind.. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
Good evening, do you have the possibility to test it on another PC (with XP, it's easier)? If it's recognized normally, your hard drive is not faulty, but you have a problem with your PC, maybe the USB connection. Try changing the USB port, then change the USB cable if it's still not recognized normally. If, on the other hand, your hard drive does not work on the other PC, then I recommend customer service. Good luck and keep me updated.
GOOD EVENING
I'm having a problem with a Storex Club Mpix 355 500 GB multimedia external hard drive
the remote control doesn't work, after having of course removed the plastic protection from the battery before putting it in, despite all that there is no response from it. Do you think the battery might already be dead without even having used it? HELP ME!! Because without a remote control, there's no way to configure it, and it's rather annoying...

Hello,
I have a STOREX CLUB MPIX 355 500GB hard drive, and I'm very happy with it. That said, I have a minor issue with it, and I would appreciate a little help. So, I've put a few movies on my hard drive, including 99 Francs (with Jean Dujardin), but when I try to play it on the TV, it doesn't work, as if I don't have the right codec... ===> Just to clarify, it’s in .avi format... But the other movies on it work fine even though they are also in .avi... I tried deleting it and copying it again... same issue... when I watch it on my PC, it’s fine; it plays well and everything...
So my question is the following: do I need to download software to encode my .avi files to DivX for this type of hard drive?
A small additional concern, while reading about the issues with this hard drive here, I saw there was software called "VIRTUALDUB" that might meet my needs... I actually need the version earlier than the current one because according to a user who left a comment here, I need to encode .avi to DivX.3 or .5, not .6, and so the download link for version 1.4.13 is not working...
Thank you in advance...
