Crop photo in the shape of a "number"

Solved

Hello,

I want to create greeting cards, and actually, I would like 2012 to appear (on a neutral background) and my photos to be included within the numbers...
(for example, the 2 representing my 1st photo, the 0 my 2nd, and so on).
It's not easy to explain! I hope you understand what I'm trying to say! :)

I use Photofiltre for my little edits; is it doable with this software, and if so, how?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Anne

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 8.0

Hello Anne
It's doable with Photofiltre
You open the first photo you want to put in the 2 and duplicate it.
Click on the text tool (Size 80, white color) and type 2
Uncheck the "smooth" box
In the "Effect" tab > Opacity 100% > Check negative > OK
> Selection > Show selection
> Edit > Copy
Open the background where you want to put the text
> Edit > Paste
> Paste options > Transparency
Right click on the two > Confirm the paste
You repeat the same process for the second photo and the zero and so on.

Hello

I'm trying to follow your method to transform a photo into numbers, but when I get to the step "open the background" + paste + paste options, it doesn't work... can you provide me with more details?

Thank you in advance

Hello,

Also feasible in Gimp - you can choose your favorite software -

1/ Import your first photo on a layer.
2/ Write the number '2' in large using the 'A' tool (the number will then be on a separate layer. Use a solid color like black).
3/ Select the layer containing the photo and press CTRL+A to select everything
4/ Select the layer containing the 2.
5/ Take the "Magic Wand" tool and choose the "Subtract from current selection" option
6/ Click on the 2: normally the selection will change from the entire photo to the photo minus the shape of the 2.
7/ Press delete: you will have the part of your photo in the shape of a 2
8/ Delete the layer containing the 2.

Repeat all this for each number associated with each new photo :)
In the end, you will have 4 layers each containing a number: rearrange them as you wish (shape, size, position, etc)... Then in the layers window, right-click - New layer from visible and everything merges!

I just tested (photofiltre, I don't have Gimp ;) ) and your explanations are simple and very clear.

A big thank you to both of you!! :)

Good evening
The manipulation I mentioned in December 2011 concerned PhotoFiltre 6 (version that does not handle layers)
Here is the manipulation for version 7
You open the photo from which you want to take elements to put them in a letter
>T and you choose an important size
>Transform the text into selection
You move the selection (holding the left click down on the selection) where you want
Right click in the selection >Copy and you close the image
You open either a background or another photo
>Edit>paste
>Layers >Merge all layers
