Hello,

I want to buy a projector, mostly for use in an apartment: cinema and Xbox console.

I had seen very good reviews about the BenQ MS510 and now I see that they have released the next one (I think), the BenQ MS513. It is priced at 305 euros online.
DLP
SVGA (800 x 600)
2,700 ANSI Lumens
10,000:1

For other specifications, you can check http://benq.fr/products/Projector/index.cfm/page/specifications/product/1277 and I'm a bit more confused.

What do you think? It's brand new and I don't see many comments about it online yet. With the budget I have (~300€), can I do better? ;)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 8.0.1

Hello, projectors are evolving and this model in 800x600 is obsolete. We must currently move to HD Ready 1280x720 like the Optoma HD67A or an ACER 5360 model.
You need to spend a little more to enter this range.

Bonjour, j'aimerais savoir s'il faut acheter un adaptateur spécial pour lire la 3D ou s'il suffit juste de lunettes ?

I am like you, with a small budget I bought the MS513, too bad for the HD but it fully satisfies me.

Hello Jebem,

I just received this Benq MS 513 and I'm in for a nasty surprise when I plugged it in: the noise.

In addition to a standard fan, which isn't very loud, there is a high-pitched shrill noise. I think I can get used to it, but I don't know if they're all like this or if it's a defect on mine.
I would like to know if I need to send it back or not.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hello, I ordered it... I'm waiting for it...
I haven't found many reviews or critiques, so I'm taking the opportunity to ask a few questions.
It doesn't do full HD, but "Supported video modes 1080i, 1080p, 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p
Supported graphic resolutions 1600 x 1200 (UXGA), 640 x 480 (VGA), 800 x 600 (SVGA)" so that means it's compatible with HD, right?
I bought it with a multimedia player that does Full HD 1080p HDMI, will I have a good resolution with that?

JEBEM: Did you try it with a console? For 3D, do you need active or passive glasses?

Hello everyone,

I am about to choose the MS513.
I also decided to sacrifice the HD due to a tight budget while hoping for a comfortable device, not too noisy, with good rendering (as much as possible given the non-HD limitations), not too much rainbow effect, etc.

So I am really curious about your opinions on this product!
JEBEM / JOHNJOHNJOHN, are you satisfied with it?!
ANIS, did you manage to resolve the shrill noise issue?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Hello, to avoid being late for technology, don't take the 800x600, of course cheaper, but go for 1280x720p.
The best: Optoma HD67N and a good price-quality ratio is Acer 5360. I own the first one and my two nephews have the Acer with the Nvidia Vision 3D kit, it's excellent.

Hello,

thank you for your feedback.

I am aware of the advantages of 1280x720p over 800x600, which you have already stated in this thread.

However, with a small budget like ours (350), it is difficult to have HD resolution AND low decibels AND good connectivity, etc. Given the choice, I prefer to accept a "technology delay" in terms of resolution and focus on other criteria that seem more important to me - especially since we mainly watch old movies or independent films that are currently rarely released in HD... we will move on to a better resolution when the lamp of this first purchase has burned out!

And for that, this BenQ MS513 seems good to me, so I would be happy to hear feedback on this projector!

I just bought it and it's great, we can connect quite a few devices and it's easy to use... Does anyone know what the USB port is for?
Thanks in advance and happy new year!

I ordered it and I'm waiting for it... I hope to have good image quality anyway... to watch some movies (Room in complete darkness). Have you tested this device and if so, under what conditions (connection, devices, decoder, DVD, etc.)?
Thank you.

I received it... not bad, I find it easy to use already. The image quality will need to be assessed over time, I plugged it into a DVD player (HDMI) and it's very good (sound through my system), it's quite a change from the TV... I tried it on an Orange decoder (HDMI) and it’s pretty good too.
The sharpness is good at around 4 meters, which already gives a fairly large image...
not disappointed with my purchase...

Hello, I can only respond that the suppliers specify whether their projector is compatible with 3D. You need a PC with a Blu-ray drive, an NVIDIA 3D Vision graphics card, and compatible glasses (the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit). Acer glasses, for example, are compatible.
A home Blu-ray player won't do the job.

Hello
I have a BenQ MS 513 that works very well!
I bought a Toshiba BDX3200KE 3D Blu-ray player
that is 3D compatible. I connected it with an HDMI 1.3 cable and tried to use it
in 3D with a Blu-ray 3D disc of Pirates of the Caribbean and the result:
no 3D compatibility.
If I connect it with a video cable (yellow), the BenQ allows me to enter
3D mode but of course still no compatibility.
I would also like help to know how to make these two devices compatible so I can enjoy 3D as stated in the specifications of these products!
Thank you in advance for your advice.

You read my previous message and there is the Optoma system to make salon players compatible: https://www.ubaldi.com/tv/video-projecteur/optoma/adaptateur-3d-videoprojecteur-optoma--3dxl--140128.php?xts=328406&xtor=SEC-2-GOO-[tv-references]-[3dxl]-S-[3dxl]&xtdt=22149780

Hello everyone!

Since then, I've received my MS 513, haven't had time to do a proper ceiling mount yet, but I'm happy with my purchase.

Image quality is spot on! PS3 or even the Freebox decoder in HD works relatively well!

A bit noisy in normal mode but it's much better in eco mode!

That's it for my little contribution, I recommend buying this projector for anyone who doesn't want to spend too much and wants to enjoy a versatile product...

Merci..

Hello, I'm back at the keyboard and I'm jumping for a classroom in relative darkness; we need brightness and the 200 lumens from the Acer will not be suitable at all.

The distance for a standard focal projector, not a "short throw" one, is specified in the manual as approximately 4 to 4.5 meters for a 2-meter screen.

Thank you for your response... In fact, I remain captivated by the portability of the K 11... I need to get one to do some tests. This equipment will need to be stopped and moved several times a day... So transported from one room to another...
I'm not sure the lamp will appreciate it... Unless a happy owner of the BenQ can specify whether or not the BenQ has effective cooling.
Has anyone invested in a bag?

Hello, I transported an Optoma provided with a case once cooled down (3 minutes); it is absolutely not fragile, but with 200 lumens from the pico projector and 2700 lumens from the Benq, there's no hesitation.

Ok, I’m convinced... Now there are only 2 smooth models left: This famous BenQ and the Acer P1200B (I know it has nothing to do with the K11 or K300, I’ve crossed out the LEDs from my list...). The first one is SVGA and the second one is XGA. I remind you that I will exclusively connect a tablet via HDMI (which itself is 1024).

Is the price difference worth it to take the plunge? Or is the difference between the 2 models so minimal that the BenQ would be more than enough?

Thank you for your objective opinions...

Hello, happiness now between the two a 1024x768 native (Acer) will have a better display the larger the screen is
it has a mini speaker and USB inputs that can be handy
it is 120Hz so 3D compatible ?????
for the lamp power it is equal
and for the contrast they report very different figures against the ACER and the depth of blacks is important for presentations in dim light so but we do not know the standard used for the calculation it needs to be checked on several sites 3400 for Acer and 10000 for Benq

It is true that while the "3700" advertised by the ACER site with 2600 lumens seems "realistic", I am still impressed by the "10000" claimed by BenQ with nearly identical lumens (2700).
What initially attracted me to the BenQ was of course its price, around 300E... Of course, it is sold without a case which artificially reduces its price compared to the Acer P1200B which comes with one. Regarding the BenQ, the sales representative at Fnac whom I consulted did not recommend it and directed me towards Epson but it was out of budget! Upon digging, it turns out that the BenQ enjoys good popularity while the more "advanced" Acer seems to be less widespread.

If I project onto a screen that is 1.5-1.6 meters wide, is that a sufficiently large image size to see the difference between the two projectors since they do not have the same native resolution?
If I occasionally project a Blu-ray on this same width, will I see the difference?

Thanks again, Glandu!

PS: I want to come back for a second on what I wrote. I saw that the BenQ MX514 exists, the same as the 513 with XGA... for 100E more... The question remains the same whether it is the Acer P1200B or this MX514... For 100E more, is it worth it?

PS2: I am coming back... etc... In terms of build quality, are BenQ and Acer comparable?

Hello, a lot of questions that I have no experience answering, except that I have an Optoma 1280x720 and for watching a movie, there is indeed a difference, but for presentations, an 800x600 is satisfactory.

Hello,
I couldn't find good answers for 3D
Do I need an adapter?
If I have to add €200, no thanks
Is an ordinary 3D graphics card enough? With the pack at €365: vp + active glasses.
Thanks for your response.

Hello: The NVIDIA 3D Vision kit at €130 or €140 includes:
*Digital copy of Duke Nukem Forever
*A pair of NVIDIA 3D Vision glasses with active shutters, carrying case, adjustable nosepieces
and microfiber cleaning cloth.
*NVIDIA 3D Vision USB controller/infrared transmitter
*10' USB 2.0 cable (Type A to mini-B 5 pins).
*6' charging cable (USB Type A to mini
Type B 5-pin).
*Installation CD
You need to check if the GPU (your GeForce graphics card) is eligible for 3D (starting from the GeForce 8800 GT, I believe, and later models). I also suggest testing the glasses with a passive system; there are articles on the web about passive versus active, which is more expensive.

Still no concrete answers, so I will summarize and address specifically those who have the Benq 513.
The native resolution of this projector is 800x600, but it scales up to 1600x1200 and supports 1080p.
It won’t be full HD, but it will be HD. From 700, it’s HD.

The configuration I have chosen is as follows:
Benq
3D Video Projector MS513 + Active 3D Glasses X-104 - blue: €385

+GAINWARD
GeForce GT 520 - 1 GB GDDR3 - PCI-Express 2.0 (2142): €37

If that’s enough, with sound through my Yamaha RX367 amplifier, using MKV 1080 files from my external HDD, it’s perfect.

For your information, in consumer price ranges (up to €3000), there is no way to compare passive glasses with active glasses.

To watch with passive glasses, you need passive technology (very few projectors exist today, except one or two projectors at €10,000) and a special polarized, metalized screen (quite expensive and does not roll up).
Another method involves placing a Volfoni Smart Crystal filter worth around €1500 in front of an active DLP 3D projector, and of course, a polarized metalized screen.

Active/passive tests are only done through 3D TVs (LG, for example).

Hello,
I really want to hear from the holders of this VP, as I contacted the technical service of Benq, who confirmed to me that it is impossible to watch 3D video films with this device in Europe.
It is only meant for 3D photos.
This device would only be valid in China and the USA.

The only device at this price from Benq that would be valid is the Benq W70-3D, not to be confused with the W703D, which is also not valid.
This device should be available for sale very soon.

So, I would appreciate some responses from these holders.

I'll have to start my research all over again. :(

Hi, I just bought this BenQ MS513, honestly the image is quite beautiful and impressive even with some light, but it's true that you can hear the noise even in eco mode (I only use this mode and it's sufficient) but it's masked by the sound of a movie for example.
However, I'm a bit of a novice so could someone explain how to use the projector's speakers instead of the sound from the computer, which is very bad when it's connected to it, I can't find it in the settings...
And to connect the PS3, do I just need to connect it with an HDMI cable?
Thanks

Hello, it depends on your budget... You should know that the built-in speakers have to make 2 or 3 watts and are insufficient for comfortable listening; they are just useful for a "presentation" in "portable" mode. Therefore, you need to connect the video source to the projector and the audio source coming from a PC or DVD player to an amplifier or mini chain; the quality depends on the power of the amplifier and its speakers (not the PC).
As for the PS, I don’t have it, but the HDMI connection to the projector is practical, and for audio, a connection to an amplifier or mini chain as mentioned above.

Please remember to mark it "resolved" if that's the case.
