Mysterious TV series FR3 1980s

Hello everyone,

At the end of the 80s, when I was a teenager, I didn’t have classes on Tuesday and/or Thursday or Friday afternoons and, during that school year, I think it was 1988-1989, I followed two very little-known series on FR3 assiduously that were broadcast in the early afternoon and that were amazing!!!

I only have memories of images:

I remember the opening credit of the first of the two series where you could see a lottery wheel with playing cards spinning, there was also fire, a menacing woman, and it was mysterious stories... investigations or strange things...

And another series that had been broadcast before or after the one described above.

This other series was shot on video (a bit chip style of the 80s), with a staging in an English style, and the actors were in period costumes around the late 19th/early 20th century. It was police investigations or strange stories again.

Both series were broadcast on FR3 in the early afternoon at the end of the 80s.

I have never re-seen these series and I can’t find their titles on TV series lists on the Internet.

Very clever and super nice would be the person who can remind me!!!

      Thanks to you I found the opening credits of this series which is indeed titled BIZARRE BIZARRE !!!

      I hope to find the series in video somewhere...

      What a joy to find this frightening and funny at the same time opening credits.

      On the other hand for the second English series it is not Mystérieux Docteur Cornelius.

      In my memories this series was aired at the same time on FR3, but before or after BIZARRE BIZARRE, around the same time...

      It was a sort of detective series with actors who played in the manner of theatre actors, and it seems to me that the actors wore costumes in the XIXth century style.

      The intrigues were fascinating...

    The second series doesn't tell me anything, but I found on the English Wikipedia the alphabetical list of English TV series; it should be in that list but with the English title, who knows? you might find your gonhneur? More details about this series, histoire d'allumer la partie de mon cerveau qui doit contenir le nom de cette deuxieme serie?
    For bizarre, bizarre, this series used to air Sunday evenings, before Benny Hill on FR3, it had left a mark on me because of two episodes: the story of the cut finger and the one about the train that crossed a garden when there were no rails
    I wonder if this series didn’t participate in my addiction to TV programs, to shows from that era, and to fantasy and science fiction series????

      But thinking about it again, did some episodes of "Bizarre Bizarre" perhaps take place with costumes from the 19th century or early 20th century?

      That might be a lead...

      I think like you that this series helped me appreciate the fantastic.

      It's terrible to have memories in bits...

      In this video police procedural series, it seems to me that the plot that marked me the most was a poisoner who then acted as if nothing had happened.
      The decor was in some rooms furnished in a 19th-century style.

      All these memories take me further back, to the early 80s when there was another series, this time of short horror films, which aired every Friday or Thursday on ANTENNE 2.

      The fear Thursdays, or the fear Fridays, or of anxiety...

      If I’m not mistaken...

      I mainly remember one of the shorts that was broadcast between 5 PM and 7 PM...

      A couple drives in pouring rain and thunder in the middle of the night, stops at a lit house... but empty... they take shelter there and end up settling in... but the husband goes mad and attacks his wife with a bladed weapon... TERRIFYING... I still shudder...

      Even my older sister who was afraid of nothing had been scared and we turned on all the lamps that day because we were both alone waiting for our parents to come back from work...

      What memories...

      Anyway, this terrifying short film is the same, impossible to find the title of this series of fantastic shorts aired on ANTENNE 2 in the early 80s in broad daylight... without worrying about the terror of children who watched TV at that time...

      I realize I’ve written a novel... mille excuses...

      Me, I was 'traumatized' by the first episode with the man with the cut finger (card game part, then after losing a hand, they cut off his finger!!!!!!) And fascinated by the episode with the train in the garden
      If you liked this series you will love the following series: Beyond Reality (black-and-white version from the 60s) and The Twilight Zone (the black-and-white version, not the remake): cult episodes!!!!!

      Please! help me find the name of this series, I vaguely remember a opening credits where the camera wanders in a backyard, a black cat passing by, all in motion.... Does anyone remember? I am almost sure it was a French production! not English or American at all...
      Really this has obsessed me for years, hats off to whoever can find the title!

Please! help me find the name of this series, I vaguely remember a opening credits sequence where the camera wanders through a banal building courtyard, a black cat (?) passes by, all in motion... Does anyone remember? I'm almost sure it was a French production, not English or American... Really this has obsessed me for years, hats off to whoever finds the title! It's a format of about twenty minutes per episode, indeed aired in the afternoon, each time with different actors, a theme centered on anxiety, nothing graphic (not Tales from the Crypt), more psychological... Thank you very much.

    And also "The Agatha Christie Hour" where some stories are in this style, but set more in the 1920s.

      Indeed I think it is "The Agatha Christie Hour," but obviously the series has not yet been released in French on the internet, except I think I’ve seen it on DVD...

    Thank you very much, I’ve looked but among all the photos from each episode of Bizarre Bizarre none show period costumes...

    I wonder if this isn’t "the return of Sherlock Holmes" around 1987...

    But the excerpts I found are in English and I can’t tell if it was aired on FR3 at the end of the 80s?

On the other hand this Sherlock Holmes film looks a lot more like the era of the series I’m looking for, except that it’s a feature film (while I’m looking for a series in video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBa_5aMYVvg&feature=related If you go straight to the middle of this clip you’ll see the dress style of the lady: it happened in that era, with women in that type of costume... except that it was filmed on video and it was a series... Could you have a flash of memory? I think FR3 aired it in the early afternoon around 1988 and when this costume crime series ended FR3 then aired Bizarre Bizarre and Bizarre Bizarre was aired at the same afternoon time slot.
