32 GB USB drive shows 255 MB!!! RSVP

Hello,

Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.6.23

I have a 32 GB Emtec USB key on which I wanted to send a movie, but it was not formatted, which I did in FAT32. However, during the transfer, a message indicated that the destination disk was full... After reading forums, I managed to format it in NTFS, so I could copy large files - even though my movie is only 700 MB.

But that doesn't change anything; I can only put very small files of less than 255 MB. When I check the properties of my USB key, it indicates that its capacity is 255 MB!!! I found no answer to this problem on the forum.

Thank you.

Hello everyone! I found the solution that isn’t too complicated after all ^^ So:

-start
-type cmd and press enter
-type diskpart and press enter
-type list disk and press enter

usually your USB key appears, look carefully at the number next to disk (it's often labeled "disk 1")

-type select disk=1 (what I just mentioned above) and press enter
-type clean and press enter
-type convert mbr and press enter
-type create partition primary and press enter

close the black window, eject your USB key, reconnect it, they will ask you to format it, press start and you're done!

Good luck :)

go to settings/control panel/administrative tools/computer management/storage/disk management
and in the bottom right section, right-click "delete partition(s)" then create again, format and off you go......
format to ntfs of course.

Correction, if you don't plan to use files larger than 2 GB, format it to FAT32 because NTFS doesn't work with all devices (e.g., Divx players...).

Hello,
It's just a partitioning issue; I had the same problem with my 8GB USB drive (which showed 4MB of space).
Let me explain: by manipulating your USB drive, other partitions must have been created that occupy all your space (like the 31GB).

What you need to do:

1# Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition

2# Delete ALL the partitions on your USB drive.

3# Create a new partition with 32GB of space.

Note: All files that were in your USB drive will be lost.

That's all.

Hello,
I managed to restore my USB stick to 4 GB when it had shrunk to 60 MB!
However, the link is no longer valid... Here is the new link:
- direct download: www.partitionwizard.com/download/pwfree91.exe
- project page: www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Thank you very much,
Sunazerty.

Actually, you use KillDisk: http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm
You go into the program, click KillDisk at the top on the drive to repair, and once it's finished (this can take some time), you type "partition" in the Windows search bar and hit enter.
There, you click on your USB drive or external hard drive, then right-click and select "create partition" and follow the installation (the top bar in the right-click menu), choose FAT32 recommended or NTFS.
P.S.: If you go to "This PC," you won't see the drive before this process.

I have tried all the steps to recover the entire 8GB of my USB drive, but nothing works... it remains at 4MB...

I tried MiniTool Partition Wizard... my drive is not visible at all anymore...

If I think you can buy an adapter that doesn't cost too much.
But I'm not sure.

It happened to me too.
Normally when you remove your key after a while, it heats up quite quickly.

ok I'll try,
on another PC too

but what criteria does it need to meet for it to be accepted?

LOL I have the same problem as you with a 16 GB key that shows 255 MB, but to say that the PC isn't powerful enough seems strange to me?

The 16 GB one works for me, I’m going to try to have it tested in the store, I don't know anything about it anyway, so I don't see what else to do, I think I no longer have the receipt...

Yes, I managed to recover the full capacity of my key, I downloaded [url=http://ftp.usboffice.kr/files/SMI_UFD_Utility.zip]UFDUtility/url and I followed the tutorial [url=http://blog.usboffice.kr/?p=146] Here it is/url
It works wonderfully.

Sorry, I don't understand how the <code> tags work, but you will just have to copy-paste the links ;)

Hello,

I think your computer isn't powerful enough for USB drives as high-capacity as yours.
