Capacitance of a capacitor

Hello,

I would like to know something! What other value of a capacitor can I use on a circuit board instead of a 1000µF (microfarads) 10V capacitor? These are the capacitors that need to be replaced on the HP 1706 board. What would happen if, for example, I used a 800µF 10V capacitor? Or one of 2000µF 16V? What is the most important property here: the microfarads or the voltage rating of the capacitors?
Thank you for your help!!

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 3.6.23

Good evening,
The most important thing is not to lower the voltage.
If you originally have a 1000µF/10V capacitor, you can replace it with a 1000µF/16V or 25V, which will be just undercharged, but definitely not below 10V; otherwise, there will be a risk of failure (explosion of the capacitor).

1000µF is the capacitance. The higher this value, the more energy the capacitor will store, and the better the current filtering will be. However, the charging time will be longer, which may (in rare cases) cause stability issues with the power supply.
If you don’t have a 1000µF, replace it with a 1500µF.

Finally, it is recommended to respect the operating temperature; generally 105°C in power supplies.
Conduct or continue your research on your side.

The accuracy and promptness of your response fascinate me. Unfortunately, I only have the internet to thank you and bless you because this is one of the most beautiful birthday gifts I have ever received (October 5th), and the fact that it comes from a namesake of mine is truly touching!!! Thank you a thousand and one times laurent2m-l!!!!!
