what is the difference between uninstalling and deleting software?

    Uninstalling would mean that you remove it from your computer "properly," that is to say by using the Control Panel / Programs and Features, for example. Properly means that the uninstallation program will clean up any possible traces of the software.

    Whereas deleting would mean that you display the software folder and delete it using the Delete key, for example.
