The solution provided in your tutorial is not the best in that it reduces the image, and the wider the frame, the more the image is shrunk....
If you want to keep it simple and quick without reducing the image, you expand the workspace to the desired width and fill it with the paint bucket: http://ww12.screenshotuploader.com
