Solved

Who would have had to solve the following problem: error message: "eject the cassette." After ejecting and reinserting it several times, removing the batteries for a few hours, nothing works, the message keeps appearing.... The camera is no longer under warranty. Is there a (hidden) "reset" button somewhere? Thank you for your help.

Problem solved! Admittedly, it's a bit empirical, but hey, it works. Now, I’ll be able to advise other users who might have the exact same incident: a little pressure on a soft plastic cache on the internal side of the casing. Reset? In any case, no more fault mention and the camera is working perfectly again. Thanks again for your thoughts and advice. fp

Hello, it happens, even with more powerful models. For "workarounds," search with Google: http://www.google.fr/search?q=canon+mv890+eject+cassette+error&hl=en&num=10&lr=&ft=i&cr=&safe=images&tbs= http://forums.cnet.com/7723-7594_102-96393.html contains reasonable advice. I assume that English (hl=en) is not a problem. Good luck Wolfgang p.s. Repair at Canon can be expensive, ask for an estimate.

Is it a good reference item? So a MiniDV scope, try changing the tape to either a new or an old one (by the way, from a distance without seeing what's going on). I would advise you to use a new tape for the test because if there's a mechanical problem with the tape, it's the virgin one that will be damaged, not a master tape that already has a recording. Compared to before, does it open less quickly? (If so, it's a mechanical problem). With the new one, make a recording of about 1 minute, then eject it; do this operation two to three times in a row... (Does the message still appear?) Including after playback, if that's the case, it's an electrical problem. Contact Canon's customer service, honestly.

Hello, thank you for your advice. @ Wolfgang It seems that this 'ERROR MESSAGE' appears to protect the tape from a malfunction of the writing head. Defect in magnetization or something else? In any case, it apparently is not a software problem as I initially thought. @ Pascal: a new tape doesn't change anything. Already tried. Before asking the question on Copains, we had already contacted Canon's customer service who 'advises' us to send the camcorder for repair. Have a good day, fp

Okay, so electrical problem... but from a distance, it's not easy to diagnose the failure or issue, and our dear scopes or cameras are packed with electronics at every level. As soon as a component fails, it creates chaos... we were less bothered with the 35mm (that said, the latest ARRI cameras are also loaded with electronics since, in addition to film, they also send the image in HD video mode to an optional hard drive). Honestly.

Good evening, I saw some mv890 (second hand) for €75. A repair is not worth it. It's a shame, but that's the reality. Best regards, Wolfgang

It's more for Wolfgang regarding the repair; if it concerns the head, it must be done especially if the person has shot in LP mode because on a second-hand scope, the tilt of the drum can be slightly different, making playback impossible. And without a measurement bench, we cannot know the wear on the head unless it's someone we know very well, as there are many surprises in the second-hand market. Indeed, it depends on everyone's budget. Personally, the customer service from Sony and Canon is quite good (albeit a bit expensive), and like everyone else, it will more likely be a matter of budget because it's true that buying new would end up costing about the same amount (camera & family scope), honestly.

I read it well? A pressure next to a soft cover?? I don't have this scope but I use others (Sony) and a pressure next to a cover, which you don't apply on a button or in the menu, means you have an electrical problem. Without being indiscreet, next to which cover? And are you sure you're pressing next to it? I will try to find one of its little brothers to see honestly.

@ Pascal Please proofread me: I did not write 'next to', it is about applying moderate pressure ON the soft gray plastic. If you read English, check the links provided by W. Wallraff. Someone is talking about putting the LCD outside and closing 'the door'. This made me think that it was enough to press the small gray rectangle to achieve the same result. There you go... fp

Ok, super cool to have added the photo and working with an XL2, indeed the soft plastic cover misled me honestly.

Furthermore, regarding the common notices for the MV series, there is nothing about this cache, even though it is clearly shown in the drawings in the presentation. It is true that each brand places its "reset" button somewhat randomly, and depending on the range, it can be easy to find. It is included in the manual; in any case, it is indeed good to have included the photo.
