Illustration table unavailable

Hello,

I am in the process of finalizing the layout of a document. After creating a table of contents, I would like to make a table of figures.

Each of my figures already has a caption that I inserted below the figure. But when I try to create my table of figures (References - Table of Contents), only the table of contents tab is available; the other three tabs (index, table of figures, and table of references) are grayed out and unavailable. Why?

At first, I thought it was because I started drafting in Open Office and therefore Word didn’t recognize the captions of the figures created in Open Office. But not so; after deleting all the captions and recreating them in Word, it still doesn't work.

Can someone help me?

Thanks!

Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.6.12

Hello Marie

Why are they greyed out? I don't see the reason.
You inserted your captions using Insert / References / Caption
So, your captions have the Caption style (format/styles)

Otherwise, you can create the table like this: Ctrl+F9 to insert a field character
Inside the braces, you type { TOC \h \z \c "Figure" }
You select the field, then press F9 to update.
The field is equivalent to what the illustrations table inserts from the menu.

Yes, thank you!
I have my captions in the Caption format, but creating a table of illustrations is not possible, the tab is not accessible.
I am actually working in a computer lab at the university and I see that all the computers have the same problem, regardless of the Word document, blank or not...
I guess I’ll have to do that somewhere else!

I had the same issue, you just need to go directly to "Insert, Table and Reference, and List of Figures in the tabs above."
