Installing Adobe Photodeluxe 2.0 on XP?

Solved

Hello!

We have just acquired a new PC running XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1GB SDRAM DDR
SATA hard drive 200GB

When we try to install a very, very old photo editing software, namely Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0 (my partner has a disability that prevents him from using new software (icons are too small like dropdown menus)), an error message appears indicating that there is not enough RAM!

I have Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0 on my own PC which also runs Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2).
Pentium 4 2.8GHz
512MB DDR DIMM RAM
80GB ultra ATA/133 HDD.

Could the problem be related to the SATA disk? I have searched everywhere and found nothing about this even on Adobe's website.

How can we solve this "insufficient memory" problem?

Could someone help us? This software is essential for my partner (even PhotoDeluxe Home Edition 3.0 doesn't suit him).

Could we consider turning the IDE hard drive from the old PC (which runs on Win 98 SE) that accepts Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0 into an external hard drive, and if so, how would we do it? What equipment? What connections? What operations?
If the "external hard drive" can be considered, will my partner be able to use it as if it were the "hard drive" of the PC, meaning storing photos, modifying them, saving them without any problems or will there be a "compatibility" issue since it is an IDE drive and the new one is a SATA?

Forgive me for all these questions but my partner really needs a solution and our computer skills are very limited.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello,
it's not an XP issue. I used this program for a long time on XP and it worked. I'm now getting the same message. It must therefore be due to a Windows update.
While searching online, I saw that it was possible to increase virtual memory via Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance - Settings/Advanced - Virtual Memory - Change/Custom size: I set it to 4000 as both the initial size and maximum size. You may then need to uninstall and reinstall Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0.
Good luck.

To solve our issue of Photodeluxe being incompatible with XP, is it also possible to install both systems (that is, Windows 98 and Windows XP) on the same hard drive? That way, we can load Win 98 whenever we want to work on Photodeluxe. Of course, we will install Photodeluxe under this Windows 98.

I haven't tried them yet. But I will definitely make an attempt.

I look forward to your possible feedback.

Theoretically, if you install Windows 98 first and then follow the installation of XP, at startup XP offers you the choice (menu) between the two systems. To better organize the disk, you can partition it into two, one partition for each system. Finally, there are free software options that can do this work.
Good luck.

Hello, I've also been using Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0 since my first PC running Windows 95. Then I installed it on Windows 98 and XP. My first PC with XP had no issues with Adobe... the very last one refused to launch Adobe Photo Deluxe due to insufficient memory.
I found a workaround; on my current PC, which has a modern configuration, the initial memory size is 1152 MB and the maximum is 2304 MB... I simply set these memory sizes to 384 MB for the initial size and 768 MB for the maximum size.
To do this, press WINDOWS+Pause; go to the Advanced tab; Performance; Advanced; Virtual Memory and set the initial and maximum sizes.

Adobe has just installed Reader 9, and PhotoDeluxe Enterprise won't open anymore (XP Pentium 3 750MHz), even though I never had any issues before. During the installation, Adobe removes the previous versions of its products. Moreover, I can't reinstall PhotoDeluxe because I still have the software. So be careful, it is very likely that the issue does not come from the operating system but from an Adobe update.
