I feel like this topic is going a bit all over the place, so here’s a summary of the different versions...
in bold, the exclusives of each version
the prices come from the Fnac website
Ds Lite: available used for 70 euros, allows you to play all DS games, but not 3DS games, no camera
can play GBA games
Dsi: available for 150 euros new, allows you to play all DS games, but not 3DS, 2 cameras
cannot play GBA games
introduction of DsiWare, which will be present on all subsequent versions.
DsiXL: 170-180 euros, allows you to play all DS games, not 3DS, presence of cameras
larger screen, but on the downside, a heavier weight (really annoying)
despite the size, the GBA slot is not included.
3DS: 150 euros, allows you to play all DS games and 3DS games (which will become more and more numerous), 3D gaming capability, which can be turned off to protect your eyes, augmented reality, stereoscopic camera, street pass
I won’t talk about the technical specifications of memory or speeds, as I admit I don't know them.
I also won’t talk about hacking possibilities.
my objective opinion...
only two of the consoles stand out: the DsLite and the 3DS.
the two Dsi have no interest anymore.
from there, it's up to you whether you prefer to turn to the past with the DsLite or to the future with the 3DS.
(or more prosaically, if price is decisive for you)
knowing that more and more games will be released on 3DS and fewer and fewer on DS
regarding the ardent defenders and detractors of 3D... in the end, it doesn't matter...
contrary to what some may say, there’s not just 3D in the 3DS, the 3D can be turned off, and if there's no 3D, there’s less reason to buy a 3DS if you already have a Dsi; in the case of someone who has neither, the 3DS is definitely worth it.
so to answer the question that is being asked: Nintendo 3DS, definitely.
to answer the unasked question, Nintendo 3DS or DsLite

Stop failing the Turing test!
Honestly, I don't even understand why you're asking the question?
It's kind of like comparing a GameCube to a Wii...
If you're poor and can only afford a console from the previous generation, buy the XL (but while you're at it, you might as well get the DSi or the Lite)
If you have the means, buy the 3DS which has all the features (except screen size) of the XL + 3D without glasses, + augmented reality + StreetPass....

I didn't understand the meaning of your message, but after checking, the 3DS costs the same price (new, at Fnac) as the DSi XL.
In other words, the XL has absolutely no interest.
The only advantage is the large screen, but it's offset by a significant weight that makes it difficult to play in a portable manner.

Without a doubt, I would choose the DSi XL because the only advantage of the 3DS is a lousy 3D effect. Even though the games are more interesting for gamers, the colors are duller than its big sister. We must not confuse progress and quality; they are not the same. So wait for the 3DS XL, where Nintendo will correct the flaws of the 3DS!!!!! And by the way, no question is stupid; only the answers are!!!!!!
Hello.
I'm going to give you my personal opinions, after that it's up to you to decide whether to follow them or not.
The Nintendo 3DS: Ah, the 3DS... The brand new toy created by Nintendo. It's definitely a hit with its 3D! But since we like playing on this console, we play for a long time, very long time, even for minutes to hours... but the 3D... after spending hours with it... Do we think about our eyes with the 3D? No, because we're so into the game that we say to ourselves: "Oh, but I'm fine here, my eyes don't hurt!" then one morning we wake up with our eyes burning horribly... and that's when we say: am I stupid... I shouldn't have played so much on the 3DS... and it’s also a source of seizures!
So as a certain FD Fire told me, we can turn off the 3D on the 3DS... haha. I'm laughing! In that case, what's the point of spending an extra hundred euros on a Nintendo 3D if we can just turn off this feature?! Maybe for its design? Too much fluff for my taste.
So I move on to the Nintendo DSi XL: With its bigger screen...sure, you can see better. But I don’t think there’s a big difference. Just a few centimeters... I don’t have anything special to add about this DSi model.
So I allow myself to give my opinion on the DSi! Yes, the plain DSi. Not in your "Guillaume" references, sure, but I think it’s really good, the DSi! Internet access, built-in camera, sound studio... the works. Oh yes, that’s for sure! But through all that, we forget the games! Yes, the Nintendo games! Good brightness, good sound... that’s the main thing!
I myself have a DSi, and I think it’s a good model and also, SAVING MONEY!
Then, maybe you have too much money, but as they say, no one has too much money...
I know, it’s rambling, but it’s the plain truth!
Read this carefully and above all, understand!!
By the way, go here, there, or even here if you haven't been yet.
Best regards ;)
We are not robots so thank you for being polite...

It amuses people like you, you can't see the future!
In 2 years, the DSI XL will be completely outdated and there won't be any new games on it!
And honestly, 3D is cool (unless you're blind haha)!
If you're really getting eye strain from 3D, then just switch to 2D and that's it, so stop nitpicking!
And finally, the 3DS is a high-tech product compared to the DSI XL, which is just a toy,
And to wrap it up, what's the point of the DSI XL's size since it should be a handheld console!
There you go...
(Think 3DS....)

I recommend the 3DS because the new games that will be released will only be compatible with it from now on! (Knowing that DSi XL games are compatible with the 3DS but not the other way around!)
I have another question to ask you and everyone of course.
Is a Nintendo 3DS more powerful than a Nintendo DS?
Thank you

I'm responding very late.
Personally, I recommend the 3DS. If you're used to playing for hours on a regular console, then playing in 3D won't hurt your eyes. I can manage to stay in 3D for little over ten hours and I wear glasses – after that, it's true that it can be tiring. Of course, for a casual player, caution is advised.
The simple DSi represents only minor interest to me, with very few changes... As for the DSi XL, sure, it has a larger screen and more comfortable gameplay, I know people who are very happy with it, but otherwise, its capabilities are limited for a price that remains high. You also have to consider that, over time, more 3DS games will be released that won't be available on other consoles. Not to mention that the upper screen of the 3DS is 10% bigger than that of the DS Lite or DSi.
To those who tell me: games for the DS Lite are still coming out!
Indeed, but those games were released a few years ago in Japan and take a while to be localized. Really, in two years at most, the DSi XL will be obsolete.
Now, to talk about functions other than games for the DSi XL and 3DS:
3DS internet browser: simple, practical, most actions are possible, you just can't watch videos and images don't always display.
DSi XL: About the same.
E-shop: 3DS: Demos of 3DS games available! Of course, this is not possible on the DSi XL.
Then, there's AR on the 3DS, you can get tired of it but it's pretty good.
Cameras: Two external cameras on the 3DS, which naturally allows for 3D photos. Inside, the system doesn't capture in 3D, that's true.
Can you make videos with the DSi XL? I don't know, but with the 3DS, the answer is yes.
In summary, the 3DS is simply a more recent console. You can't help but appreciate the slide pad, which I find to be a significant advantage.
Then, to provide some figures and switch to objectivity:
The 3DS is number 1 in sales in Japan...
Isn't that an indicator?

So here it is, I have the answer you're waiting for!
Firstly, it all depends on your choice,
I have the DSi XL, great screen and there's also
the 3DS, smaller screen but more applications
and it can film and take 3D photos.
But if you really don't know, a 3DS XL will soon be released
which is awesome with many more pixels!!!
P.S.: I bought the DSi XL also because of the
more mature colors. I have the pink one!!!

Hello everyone, you're forgetting the essential question;
"Will the games that are out and that will come out on 3DS be compatible with DSi? And also, will DSi games still be developed?"
According to the store recyleware, NO.
I think the answers to these questions are also important!
Have a good day everyone.
P.S.: The tone of some leaves a certain tension in the air....

Hello, I know my response is late but allow me to reply.
BLACK OPS, what you're saying is nonsense! I have a 3DS, a DSi, and a DS Lite, and to be honest, the DSi is really bad compared to the 3DS!
Do your research before posting your messages! The 3DS has an additional camera compared to the DSi. It has two on the outside for 3D and one on the inside (not in 3D).
The images are blurry at first, but as you use the console more, it improves. Plus, it features a dual-core PICA 200 microprocessor and CPU11!
And then there's the 3D slider which allows you to adjust the 3D effect.
Also, the internet browser is much more accessible than the one on the DSi. You should know that there are updates that bring modifications to the console.
GET INFORMED BEFORE POSTING YOUR MESSAGES, WHICH GO AGAINST OUR RESPONSES! ;)

Hello,
I have the same dilemma between the DSiXL and the 3DS for my 8-year-old son (so not an elderly person ;-).
For my part, I have no interest in the camera. I'm rather in favor of the larger screen but I haven't been able to test it, and opinions are divided (it seems to be more comfortable but only 10% larger and the resolution remains unchanged compared to the DS/DSi). And I find that the 3D (which I've tested) indeed hurts the eyes if you're not at the right angle, so if I buy a 3DS, I would likely ask my son to turn off the 3D (at least most of the time) since I don't expect him to stay perfectly still and directly in front of the 3DS when he plays (or watches his friend play when he lends it to him like all kids do).
Before finalizing my choice, I would like to understand:
- why has the price of the DSiXL not dropped in the past year? If this console was bad and had no future, its price should have fallen when the 3DS was released...
(DSiXL at €179 vs 3DS at €159 on average, to which you have to add the price of games, obviously significant. However, Auchan is offering a very timely deal for the DSiXL + Zelda Spirit Tracks game for €170).
Does this hide a difficult start for the 3DS (at least in Europe)?
- new games are almost exclusively released for the 3DS, so not usable on the DSiXL but will the "older" DS games remain easily purchasable and at prices that will drop drastically?
- can the DSi/DSiXL and 3DS communicate with each other for online play?
Thank you for your informed and quick opinions. The Auchan offer on the DSiXL ends on Tuesday.

Hello ^^
I recommend the 3DS for your son, which is more affordable and has more features
Also, since the 3D can be turned off, that's encouraging, right?
Unlike Japan, Europe had a small game catalog, which is why the 3DS had a difficult start
And regarding games, even the quality of the old ones (on DS, etc.) is lower on the 3DS, but that doesn't matter at all ^^
I hope I have answered your questions ^^

Hello,
I would advise you the Nintendo 3DS (but you need to have games where you don't stay too long, like Animal Crossing, but what's the point of buying this console...), then it's true that the Nintendo DSi XL has a bigger screen and you don't have 3D after that it's up to you to choose, it depends on the people. But for your eyesight, if you don't want to damage it, don't take the 3DS, but just a quick question, how do you turn off the 3D on the Nintendo 3DS?
Chloé,

Chloé,
All the ways if he still doesn't know what to take since August 19, 2011, he will never know what to take: The post is 1 year and 1 day old!
And a DSi XL is not worth a 3DS/3DS XL: the 3DSs are way better.

Hello, I don't know the specifications, but I can tell you that the DSi is better even though it's not XL because with the 3DS, when we turn on the 3D feature, the image is not truly 3D, it's all blurry and it doesn't have the camera and everything that the DSi has.
So go for the DSi :)
So go for the DSi :)

the gba sp; the gba lite, the ds lite, the ds XL had no interest... that didn't stop nintendo from selling them, and people from buying them...
as for the interest in the 3ds... well since you're not reading what I'm writing, I won't repeat myself... if you ever change your mind, a hint, certain words in my message are in bold.
