LG RHT497H DVD Recorder Won't Turn On

Hello,

I've had a problem for the past 3 days with my LG recorder that won't turn on. When I plug it in, the message "hello" appears on the front display and then turns off immediately, and this goes on endlessly. However, when I hold down the stop button, I can see that my recorded movies are still on the HDD. I had the same problem 2 months ago (still under warranty) and I was told that everything was working perfectly (indeed, it worked again when I picked it up).

Thank you in advance for your help, if possible. (warranty expired since the end of June)

    Most stores offer a 1-year warranty, but it seems the manufacturer's warranty is 2 years. Call 3220 (free call from a landline) and say "LG". Have your receipt ready.
    On this site, 2-year warranty: https://www.son-video.com/article/enregistreurs-video/lg/rht497h

      I already called this number, I was told to bring my device back to the retailer and to check with them (because I should have taken the warranty extension). My warranty was indeed 2 years but expired in June 2011...

      Given the price of the device at the time, taking it to a repair shop. Today, technically it no longer has much value. Is the cost of the repair (if feasible) worth it (considering the depreciation)?
      If you are thinking of switching, I can give you some ideas. Please indicate whether you are interested in HD or not. If you record a lot. If you have an old TV model or a flat screen. Please let me know the brand and model if possible.

      I have the same issue with an LG RHT 397H where the message "hello" scrolls in a loop and prevents it from starting. It happened after 1 year and 2 months, and since the LG warranty is only 1 year, I'm out of luck. LG support acts like they're unaware of this type of failure and asks to contact an LG authorized repairer for this type of device (which are few and probably not near you unless you live in a big city, which is not my case). In fact, I am sure that this failure is common with their products and a design flaw of the power supply. A colleague who knows about electronics replaced a capacitor on the power supply - it worked for 2 months without pushing it too hard, then it was the same again. Throwing a 300-euro device in the trash after a year, thanks LG!! Other less known manufacturers guarantee their products like TNT decoders for 2 years - find the error.

      Oh, if I forgot, while doing a search on Google, "msg hello + LG", it's crazy the number of comments you find on this subject regarding LG players of various generations. LG really takes consumers for fools with its 1-year warranty and its customer service that asks you to reset the player in the configuration menus - I tried it once when the player managed to start after long hours of waiting, stuck on the "hello" message but with no change afterwards - They should read the comments online before claiming that this type of failure is unknown just to pass the buck - A device that keeps saying hello in a loop (software startup) and only really starts after several minutes, hours, or never, only LG could invent something like that - You definitely can't record a program at the last minute - For me, it's over with LG!!!!

      The easiest solution would be to take equipment from another brand, newer. Get a separate DVD (Blu-Ray) player and a HD TNT recorder. All-in-one devices are often very expensive and not very effective.

    Hi,
    Replace the Alim card model EAX31847513 (easy to remove; the most delicate part is the connector on the right - lift the card with a screwdriver);

    for your information, spare parts

      Hello Oliver, does changing the Alim card solve the problem? I also have a Hello with a DVD player that runs empty and no longer sends a signal to the TV - thank you for your feedback.
